Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Too Close

Amina didn't move.

Neither did Adam.

They were still standing too close… closer than they should be.

Her hand was still on his chest.

His arm still around her.

She could feel his heartbeat.

Fast.

Not calm anymore.

Not like before.

"Why…" she whispered, her voice barely audible,

"…does this feel like I've done this before?"

Adam didn't answer.

He was looking at her like he was trying to decide something.

Something important.

Something dangerous.

"Amina…"

Her name sounded different when he said it.

Softer.

Real.

She swallowed slowly.

"Yes…?"

For a second—

He leaned a little closer.

Her breath stopped.

Her heart raced.

She didn't move away.

Didn't want to.

But then—

Adam pulled back.

Suddenly.

Like he forced himself to.

"We shouldn't do this."

The words hit her unexpectedly.

"Do what?"

He stepped away.

Putting distance between them again.

"This."

Amina felt something strange.

Disappointment?

"I don't even know what 'this' is," she said quietly.

"That's exactly why it's dangerous."

Silence.

Heavy.

Confusing.

Amina crossed her arms, trying to hide how she felt.

"You keep saying everything is dangerous."

"Because it is."

"No," she shook her head.

"You're hiding something."

Adam didn't deny it.

"I am."

"Then tell me!"

"I can't."

"Why?!"

His voice lowered.

"Because if you remember everything…"

He looked at her.

"…you won't look at me the same way again."

That stopped her.

Completely.

"What did you do…?" she asked softly.

Adam didn't answer.

And that silence—

Was louder than any answer.

Before she could ask again—

A sound.

Outside.

A door closing.

Both of them froze.

Adam turned his head slightly.

Listening.

Focused.

Amina felt it too.

That same feeling.

Danger.

"They found us," he said quietly.

Her heart dropped.

"So fast…?"

"They were already close."

Amina stepped back.

"What do we do?!"

Adam grabbed his jacket.

"We leave. Now."

"Again?!"

"Yes."

Before they could move—

CRASH!

The window shattered.

Glass exploded everywhere.

Amina screamed.

Someone jumped inside.

The same man.

Cold eyes.

That same smile.

"You're getting tired of running, aren't you?"

Adam moved instantly.

He pulled Amina behind him.

"Stay back!"

The man looked at them calmly.

"You're making this harder than it should be."

"Leave," Adam said coldly.

The man laughed.

"You know I can't."

His eyes moved to Amina.

"You don't remember me, do you?"

Amina's breath got stuck.

"No…"

"Pity."

He took a step forward.

"We used to have… interesting conversations."

Her heart started racing again.

"What…?"

Adam's voice cut in.

"Don't listen to him."

But the man smiled wider.

"She was asking too many questions back then."

Amina froze.

Same words Adam said.

"You see?" the man continued.

"She remembers… just a little."

"Enough," Adam said.

His voice sharp.

Dangerous.

The man tilted his head slightly.

"Still protecting her…"

Then suddenly—

He moved.

Fast.

Adam pushed Amina aside.

"GO!"

Everything happened in seconds.

Amina stumbled back.

Her head spinning.

She saw them fighting.

Fast.

Violent.

She couldn't follow.

"Adam—!"

"Run!" he shouted.

But she didn't move.

She couldn't.

Fear held her in place.

Then—

The man looked at her.

And smiled again.

"Oh… this is even better."

He stepped toward her.

Adam grabbed him—

But got pushed hard against the wall.

Amina gasped.

"ADAM!"

The man was now in front of her.

Too close.

She stepped back.

"No… stay away from me!"

He leaned closer.

"Do you want to remember?"

Her heart pounded.

"No…"

"I can help you."

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

"Just one push… and everything comes back."

Amina shook her head.

"No… I don't trust you!"

"You don't have to."

He raised his hand slowly.

Toward her.

Amina froze.

"No…"

Then—

A voice.

"DON'T TOUCH HER!"

Adam.

He rushed forward—

And hit him hard.

The man stepped back this time.

Still smiling.

"You're getting emotional."

Adam stood in front of Amina again.

Breathing heavily.

"This ends now."

Silence.

The man looked at both of them.

Then sighed.

"Not tonight."

Amina frowned.

"What…?"

He stepped back toward the broken window.

"But next time…"

His eyes locked on hers.

"…you won't be able to run."

And then—

He disappeared.

Gone.

Just like that.

Silence filled the room.

Only their breathing.

Fast.

Unstable.

Amina's legs gave up.

She almost fell—

But Adam caught her.

Again.

This time—

She didn't move away.

She held onto him.

Tightly.

"I'm scared…" she whispered.

Her voice shaking.

Adam's expression softened.

"I know."

She looked up at him.

"Don't leave me."

He didn't hesitate.

"I won't."

Silence.

Close.

Too close again.

Amina's eyes moved to his lips.

Then back to his eyes.

Her heart was racing.

She didn't understand it.

But she felt it.

Strong.

Real.

Without thinking—

She leaned closer.

Slowly.

Adam froze.

"Amina…"

But he didn't move away this time.

Their faces inches apart.

Breath mixing.

Everything around them disappeared.

Just them.

Just that moment.

And then—

She stopped.

Just before.

Her heart pounding.

"I… I don't know what I'm doing…"

Adam looked at her.

Soft.

Real.

"Neither do I."

But still—

He didn't let go.
