Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Stay With Me

The room felt different.

Not safer.

Not calmer.

Just… clearer.

For the first time since everything started—

They had a direction.

"We go after them," Amina repeated slowly.

Adam nodded.

"Yes."

She crossed her arms.

"And how exactly are we supposed to do that?"

He walked toward the table and pulled out a small device.

Amina frowned.

"What is that?"

"A tracker."

Her eyes widened.

"You had that the whole time?!"

"I didn't want to use it."

"Why?"

"Because once we start…"

He looked at her.

"…there's no going back."

Silence.

Amina understood.

This wasn't just running anymore.

This was war.

She took a deep breath.

"Then we start."

Adam watched her for a moment.

"You're sure?"

"No," she said honestly.

"But I'm not running anymore."

Something in her voice changed.

Stronger.

Adam nodded slightly.

"Okay."

Hours passed.

They were still planning.

Talking.

Arguing sometimes.

But working together.

Like they had done it before.

And maybe—

They did.

It was late.

Very late.

Amina was sitting on the couch, tired.

Her head resting back.

Her eyes half closed.

Adam was standing near the window, watching outside.

Always alert.

Always thinking.

"You should sleep," he said.

She didn't move.

"I can't."

"Try."

Silence.

Then—

"Stay with me."

The words came out softly.

Without thinking.

Adam turned.

"What?"

Amina opened her eyes slowly.

Her voice quieter now.

"Just… stay."

He looked at her.

For a long moment.

Then—

He walked closer.

Sat next to her.

Not too close.

But close enough.

Amina looked at him.

"You don't sleep, do you?"

"Not much."

"Why?"

"Bad memories."

She smiled slightly.

"Same."

Silence.

Comfortable this time.

Not heavy.

She shifted a little.

Closer.

Her shoulder touched his.

He didn't move away.

Her heart started beating faster again.

But she didn't stop.

"Adam…"

"Yes?"

She hesitated.

Then asked—

"Were we like this before?"

His breath slowed.

"Yes."

Her lips curved slightly.

"I think I like that version of me."

He looked at her.

"You still are that version."

"I don't feel like it."

"You will."

Silence again.

But this time—

It felt different.

Warmer.

Closer.

Amina looked down at his hand.

Resting next to hers.

For a second—

She hesitated.

Then slowly…

She moved her hand.

Until it touched his.

Lightly.

Adam froze.

But didn't pull away.

Her fingers slowly wrapped around his.

Soft.

Careful.

Like she was afraid he would disappear.

"I don't remember you…" she whispered.

He looked at her.

"I know."

"But…"

She squeezed his hand a little.

"I feel you."

That hit him deeply.

More than anything before.

He turned his hand slightly.

Holding hers properly now.

Not just a touch.

A real hold.

Amina's heart raced.

But this time—

She didn't feel confused.

She felt calm.

She leaned her head slowly…

on his shoulder.

Adam froze again.

Not used to this.

Not used to something this simple.

This… real.

"You okay?" she asked softly.

"…Yeah."

But his voice wasn't as steady as usual.

Amina smiled slightly.

"Liar."

For the first time—

He actually smiled.

A real one.

Small.

But real.

Minutes passed.

Maybe more.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Just breathing.

Just presence.

Amina's eyes started closing.

Slowly.

"I'm tired…" she murmured.

"Sleep."

"I don't want to wake up alone…"

Adam looked at her.

"You won't."

"Promise?"

He didn't hesitate.

"I promise."

She relaxed.

Completely.

Still holding his hand.

Still leaning on him.

And slowly—

She fell asleep.

Adam didn't move.

Didn't even try.

He just sat there.

Looking at her.

Peaceful.

For once.

No fear.

No pain.

Just… calm.

He raised his free hand slowly…

and moved a strand of hair away from her face.

Carefully.

Like she could break.

"You always do this…" he whispered.

"…trust me when you shouldn't."

Silence.

Then—

His voice dropped.

Softer.

Almost a confession.

"And I always fall for it."

He looked away.

But didn't let go of her hand.

Not even for a second.

Outside—

The night was quiet.

But not for long.

Because somewhere…

Someone was watching.

And this time—

They knew exactly where to strike next.
