Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: No Turning Back

The city never really sleeps.

But that night…

It felt like everything was watching.

Amina stood in front of the window.

Arms crossed.

Eyes focused.

Different.

Not scared anymore.

Not confused.

Just… ready.

Behind her, Adam was preparing something on the table.

Maps. Devices. Weapons.

Amina turned slightly.

"You've done this before, haven't you?"

Adam didn't look up.

"Yes."

"How many times?"

"Enough."

Silence.

She studied him.

"You don't look afraid."

"I am."

She frowned.

"You hide it well."

"I have to."

Amina walked toward him slowly.

Her

But confident.

"And me?" she asked.

"Should I be afraid?"

Adam finally looked at her.

"For yourself? Yes."

Pause.

"But not for me."

That made her heart move.

"Why?"

His voice lowered.

"Because I won't let anything happen to you."

Silence.

Heavy.

But warm.

Amina stepped closer.

Too close again.

She looked straight into his eyes.

"You keep saying that…"

"And I mean it."

Her lips curved slightly.

"I know."

For a second

They forgot everything.

The danger.

The plan.

The past.

Just them.

Amina's hand moved slowly…

resting on his arm.

"Then don't treat me like I'm weak."

Adam's expression changed.

"I don't."

"You do."

She stepped even closer.

"I was part of them… remember?"

Silence.

"I can fight."

"I know you can."

"Then let me."

Her voice firm now.

"No running. No hiding."

Adam studied her face.

Looking for doubt.

But there was none.

"Fine," he said finally.

"But you stay close to me."

She smiled.

"Always."

That word…

felt heavier than it should.

The plan was simple.

Too simple.

Break in.

Find data.

Leave.

But nothing about this felt simple.

Later.

They were ready.

Dark clothes.

Silent.

Focused.

Standing near the door.

Amina took a deep breath.

"This is it…"

Adam looked at her.

"Still time to change your mind."

She shook her head.

"No."

Then

She stepped closer.

Unexpectedly.

"Before we go…"

Adam frowned slightly.

"What?"

Amina didn't answer.

She just looked at him.

Long.

Deep.

Like she was trying to memorize him.

"Just in case…" she whispered.

His heart slowed.

"Amina

She didn't let him finish.

She kissed him.

This time

Without hesitation.

Without fear.

Stronger.

Deeper.

Real.

Adam froze for a second.

Then responded instantly.

Pulling her closer.

Like he didn't want to let go.

Like this moment mattered.

Too much.

When they finally pulled away

Their breathing was heavy.

Foreheads almost touching.

"Now I'm ready," she said softly.

Adam looked at her.

Something in his eyes changed.

"Don't do that again."

She smiled slightly.

"Why?"

"Because I won't want to leave."

Silence.

Then

"Then don't."

That almost broke him.

But he stepped back.

"We have to go."

They moved.

Fast.

Silent.

Through empty streets.

Toward the building.

Dark.

Hidden.

Dangerous.

Amina stopped.

"This place…"

Her head hurt slightly.

"I've been here before…"

Adam looked at her.

"I know."

She swallowed.

"Then let's finish this."

They entered.

Quiet.

Careful.

Every step

Every breath controlled.

Inside

Everything was too familiar.

Too easy.

And that was the problem.

Amina stopped suddenly.

"Something's wrong."

Adam froze.

"What?"

"It's too quiet…"

Silence.

Then

A sound.

Behind them.

A voice.

Slow.

Calm.

"And I was waiting for you to notice."

Amina's heart dropped.

Adam turned.

Too late.

Lights turned on.

Bright.

Blinding.

Men everywhere.

Surrounding them.

Trapped.

And in the middle

Him.

The same man.

Smiling.

"You really thought it would be that easy?"

Amina stepped forward slightly.

"You knew we were coming."

"Of course."

He looked at Adam.

"You always come back."

Adam's jaw tightened.

"What do you want?"

The man smiled.

"I don't want you."

His eyes moved to Amina.

"I want her."

Silence.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

Amina felt it again.

That same feeling.

Memory.

Fear.

Truth.

"You…" she whispered.

The man smiled wider.

"Yes…"

Pause.

"Do you remember me now?"

Her breathing changed.

Her eyes focused.

Fragments coming back.

Faster.

Stronger.

And then

Her voice dropped.

Cold.

Clear.

"…you were my handler."

Silence exploded in the room.

Adam's eyes widened.

"What…?"

The man laughed.

"Finally."

Amina didn't move.

Didn't blink.

Her eyes locked on him.

No fear.

Just truth.

"You trained me."

Her voice steady.

"You controlled me."

The man nodded.

"And now…"

He smiled.

"…you belong to me again."

Amina's lips curved slightly.

But not a smile.

Something darker.

"No."

Silence.

Cold.

Dangerous.

"I don't belong to anyone anymore."
