Amina couldn't take her eyes off the photo.
Her hands were still shaking.
"That's… me," she whispered.
There was no doubt.
Same face. Same eyes.
But the girl in the picture looked… different.
Happier.
Closer.
Standing next to Adam like she belonged there.
Like she belonged with him.
"How…?" she asked again, her voice barely steady.
"How do I know you…?"
Adam didn't answer immediately.
He was watching her.
Carefully.
Like he was afraid of what would happen next.
"You said you wanted the truth," he finally said.
Amina nodded slowly.
"Yes…"
He took a step closer.
"That picture was taken two months ago."
Her heart skipped.
"Two months…?"
"You weren't like this."
"Like what?"
"Lost."
The word hit her harder than expected.
"I'm not lost…" she said, but her voice wasn't convincing.
Adam didn't argue.
He just continued—
"We met by accident."
Amina let out a small, ironic laugh.
"Another accident?"
He almost smiled.
"Not that kind."
Silence.
Then he added—
"You were different back then."
Her eyes stayed on him.
"How?"
"You asked too many questions."
She frowned.
"I still do."
"Not like before."
His voice softened a little.
"Before… you didn't stop."
Something about that made her chest tighten.
"Did we… know each other well?"
Adam hesitated.
That hesitation said everything.
"How well?" she insisted.
He looked away for a second.
Then back at her.
"Too well."
Amina's heart started beating faster.
"Meaning…?"
He stepped closer.
This time—
Closer than before.
"You trusted me."
Her breath slowed.
"And now?"
He looked straight into her eyes.
"Now you don't even remember me."
Silence filled the room.
Heavy.
Painful.
Amina felt it.
Even if she didn't remember…
She felt like she lost something important.
Something real.
"I'm sorry…" she said softly.
Adam frowned slightly.
"For what?"
"For forgetting."
That surprised him.
"You didn't choose that."
"I know… but still."
She looked down at the photo again.
"You look… happy here."
He didn't answer.
"You don't look like that now."
That one hurt.
Even if she didn't mean it that way.
Adam took a slow breath.
"Things changed."
"Because of the accident?"
"Yes."
Silence.
Then—
Amina looked up again.
"Were we… together?"
The question stayed in the air.
Clear.
Direct.
Adam didn't move.
Didn't answer.
Amina felt nervous.
"Adam…"
He closed his eyes for a second.
Then opened them.
"No."
Her heart dropped.
"Oh…"
"But—"
She looked at him again.
"But what?"
He stepped even closer now.
So close she could feel his presence.
"We were close."
Her breath got heavier.
"How close…?"
His voice lowered.
"Close enough to risk everything."
Amina felt her قلب race.
"Why… would you do that?"
Adam looked at her like the answer was obvious.
"For you."
Silence.
Her mind couldn't process everything.
"You're saying all this like it's normal…"
"It's not."
"Then why me?"
He didn't hesitate this time.
"Because you're not normal either."
That again.
That same sentence.
"You keep saying that…"
Her voice almost broke.
"What am I, Adam?"
He looked at her.
Deep.
Serious.
Like he was deciding something important.
"You were looking for something."
"For what?"
He didn't answer directly.
"Something dangerous."
Amina felt fear again.
"And I found it?"
"Yes."
"And that's why all this is happening?"
"Yes."
Her hands tightened.
"So all this… is my fault?"
"No."
His answer came fast.
Strong.
"Don't say that."
"But if I didn't—"
"You didn't know."
His voice softened again.
"And even if you did… I would still be here."
She looked at him.
"Why…?"
This time—
He didn't look away.
"Because I care about you."
The words were simple.
But they changed everything.
Amina felt her heart stop for a second.
Then beat faster than ever.
"That's not fair…" she whispered.
Adam frowned.
"What?"
"You're telling me all this… and I can't even remember you."
Silence.
Then—
"You will," he said quietly.
"And when you do…"
She looked at him.
"…you might hate me."
That surprised her.
"Why would I hate you?"
Adam didn't answer.
That silence again.
Full of secrets.
Amina turned away.
She needed air.
Needed space.
Everything was too much.
But before she could move—
Her foot hit something.
She lost balance.
"Wait—"
Adam caught her instantly.
His hand around her arm.
Pulling her closer.
Too close.
For a second—
They froze.
Her hand on his chest.
His arm around her.
Their faces inches apart.
Amina's heart was racing.
She could feel his heartbeat too.
Fast.
Not calm anymore.
Their eyes met.
No words.
No past.
Just that moment.
Something real.
Something strong.
Something she didn't understand…
But didn't want to move away from.
Adam's voice came low.
"Careful…"
But he didn't let go.
Not immediately.
Amina didn't move either.
Her voice almost a whisper—
"Why does this feel… familiar?"
Adam looked at her.
Long.
Deep.
Then said—
"Because it is."
