Chapter 4 - Off to U.A

The next morning, I was up to watch my first sunrise in Japan, taking a picture to remember it by as I went back inside to find Fuyumi already making breakfast.

"Good morning, Micah-San! How was your first night in Japan?" She asked from the kitchen as I nodded at Shoto. "It was very nice, I was able to rest very well after eating a good home-cooked meal." She preened at the praise as she brought over breakfast.

Today's meal was Miso Soup, Grilled fish, and steamed white rice. The food was good, but having to wash it down with bitter tea made me wish for some sugar. Maybe I could try making sweet tea like the crazy cousin I had in my last life, I think she was from Arkansas?

Pushing that thought away, I thanked Fuyumi for the meal and followed Shoto to the train station. Not a word was said the entire way to U.A which was fine by me; it gave me time to wake up and listen to my music before having to deal with exams.

Once we got off the train, it was a short walk to U.A, which was bigger than I'd thought it would be. The first thing I noticed was the massive main building, or rather the four massive towers connected to look like the letter H.

The next thing I noticed was the nearly three-meter-tall wall that surrounded the area, disappearing around the block, and the sea of students streaming through the front gate. Shoto had entered, so I took my time going in as I followed the crowd, taking in the sights as I entered the exam hall.

A proctor was there waiting for us as he explained the exam to us. Once he was done, a massive screen lit up with how much time we had left as I got to work. The math and English portions were easy since I'd always liked math, and was a natural English speaker.

The Japanese history and quirk laws were another story altogether. I'd done a bit of research since I knew it would most likely be on the exam, but I was still woefully unprepared for these two portions of the exam. Hopefully my other scores would balance it out in the end. . .

By the time the written exam was over, I felt like my head was going to explode as robots collected our exams and we were divided up according to which course we were applying to. I was herded together with all the other hero applicants into a large auditorium where my next headache of the day awaited us.

"WHAT'S UP, EVERYBODY! CAN I GET SOME NOISE UP IN HERE?!"

The auditorium was dead silent as the gathered students stared at Present Mic, not quite sure what to do. He scratched his cheek before moving on. As he began his enthusiastic explanation of the practical exam, I let my mind wander, and I thought about how I could at least try to defeat the 0-point robot.

I didn't have to think for long since more robots entered and shuffled us into one of the various buses waiting outside. I sat by the window watching the campus fly by as I wondered where U.A got all the money they spend on this place.

When we got to the fake city, I was struck by how massive it was. Other than the massive wall around it, it looked like it could be the downtown area of any decently large city, full of shops and malls and plenty of buildings.

"Alright, future heroes! Time to show us what you're made of!" Mic's voice was heard from a speaker as the massive gate opened. I summoned my wings and took off into the city as Mic was heard once more. "Villains are going to wait, GO ALREADY!!"

The others scrambled to catch up with Micah as they entered the city full of bots. Already, Micah was tearing through bots as the ones near him swarmed over. 1 and 2-point bots didn't put up much of a challenge as he had the arial advantage, but three-point bots had more diverse weapons that posed a small threat.

Although he did take a few hits, Micah was slowly pulling back from destroying bots as he started helping out others. Even if he hadn't known about the rescue points, he still probably would have helped out the others since more than a few really were helpless against the bots.

While the students were busy trying to earn their spot in U.A's hero program, the teachers and faculty of the school were also busy watching them in a special control room. "There are quite a few good seedlings this year." Principal Nezu mused as the teachers close by nodded.

"Look at that one, such an interesting quick." Midnight's screen showed Micah throwing a bot into a building and helping someone who'd fallen. "Ah, yes, another scholarship student from the United States. Micah Hall seems to have the heart of a hero." Nezu nodded as a few other teachers noted his name.

"Look at this one! Such fluid motions, truly built for battle." Vlad King said as his screen showed a blonde-haired boy blowing apart bot after bot as he carved a warpath through the city. "I don't like that face of his, too full of himself." Eraserhead snorted as more teachers called out students who caught their eye.

Back in the city, Micah was busy helping out another pair of students who'd gotten stuck under some rubble when he felt the ground start to shake. 'Time for the big one.' After getting them up and running, he turned back and saw the massive form of the zero-point robot.

'How in the world does U.A afford this thing?! It must cost millions to make!' He thought incredulously as he flew from rooftop to rooftop. Though he was confident he could enter U.A just based on his villain points, he also went out of his way to collect hero points as well.

Now he had a chance to really cash in as the zero-point bot started running over buildings in its way. Not wasting any more time wondering how large the U.A budget was, Micah leapt from the building and started grabbing people to drag away from the bot.

He wasn't the only one doing so, as a few others were busy helping out as well, but one in particular caught his eye. 'Sasha?!' He'd only ever seen her in one show, but her death had set the tone for the rest of the series.

So seeing her here rescuing people was a bit of a mind fuck as he nearly got crushed by a falling chunk of rubble. He was able to roll out of the way in time as he got to his feet to find Sasha grinning at him. "Don't stare too hard, tiger." She then ran off to help more people as Micah felt his face heat up.

Shoving that as far away as he could for the moment, Micah saw that there were still too many people to pull out of the way, so rather than help them, he took to the air to try and distract the zero-pointer away from everyone else.

Getting up in the bot sensor didn't seem to work very well, as it kept rolling forward, so Micah went down, grabbed a decently sized metal bar, and drove it into one of the arm joints. That seemed to get its attention as it started swinging its oversized arms at him.

As he dodged the wild swings, Micah remembered that his wings were also coated in fire, and when he tried, he was able to control the flames somewhat. So, making a few fireballs, he was able to make sure the bot kept its attention on him as another ten minutes passed before a horn rang out.

'THAT'S ALL, FOLKS! THE EXAM IS NOW OVER. PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY BACK TO THE STARTING LINE AND SEE RECOVERY GIRL IF YOU NEED ANY MEDICAL ATTENTION."

As the zero-point bot powered down, I was finally able to land as my back felt like it was about to peel off. "Not bad, you put on a pretty good show." A voice said in my ear as I nearly jumped back into the air.

Whirling around, I found myself face-to-face with Sasha. "Oh, h-hi?" I stammered despite myself as she grinned. Now that I had a closer view, I noticed she had a pair of cat ears, as well as a tail swishing behind her.

"You're staring again~" She got in my face as I tried to back up, only to realize I was against a wall. "Sorry?" I finally choked out as her grin got even wider, "Who said I didn't like it?" She then sauntered away as I felt my face heat up for the second time today.

Once I finally got my bearings and left the city, I was able to go to the restroom before I made my way back to the main gate, where Shoto was waiting for me. Just as I reached him, someone tapped me on the shoulder, and I turned to find no one there.

Shrugged, I turned to find Sasha in my face again. "Can I help you?" I asked since I was now not as nervous, and she pouted at that before handing me her phone. "Your number might help." I blinked in surprise and handed her my phone as I put my number in hers.

When we finally parted ways, Shoto was already walking, so I ran to catch up with him. Just like this morning, neither of us said a word as we rode the train a short while before reaching our stop. The walk to his house was plenty of time for me to organize my thoughts as we reached the front door and left our shoes before entering.
