Since U.A had to process the applications for what must be thousands of applicants, we wouldn't get our results until a week later.
That was fine by me since it gave me time to get used to speaking Japanese more, something that Natsuo and Fuyumi were more than happy to help with as another aspect of my life became more interesting.
Turns out that Sasha wasn't just pulling my leg about wanting my number as we texted nearly every day. Mostly, she asks all sorts of questions about what kind of food I'd eat in the states as well as teasing me, something she was very good at.
For my part, I mostly sent her funny reels that I found as we added each other on most social media, and would spend hours of the night sending things back and forth. She also practiced her English on me, not the best, but still better than what Natsuo and Fuyumi did.
Shoto had also started talking a bit more to me, apparently interested in how the hero system in the U.S operated. I didn't know much since I was still getting used to the idea of being in a new world, but I tried my best.
I'd made the most progress in training, though. I could now hover in place for about an hour. I was also experimenting more with controlling the flames on my wings to see if I could shape them into weapons or at least make bigger and better fireballs.
While I hadn't been able to make weapons just yet, I was able to control how many fireballs I made at once, and could even send out waves of fire instead of fireballs if I so chose. Shoto actually proved to be helpful in this, as he would lower the temperature in the area, forcing me to use more flames to keep warm.
That was the extent of his assistance, however, as he had his own training that he was focused on. I didn't mind, though, since I had Sasha to keep me company. She'd already asked me to meet up at a cafe in Musutafu, the city where we were, so that we could hang out.
Once I got there, I found her already waiting for me. She was already digging into a croissant as I ordered a hot chocolate, not really in the mood for coffee. "I see you still got the wings out." She noticed once she was done with her croissant. I nodded as I sipped my chocolate.
She then reached over and grabbed my hand, dragging me out into the city as she showed me around. By far my favorite thing was the amount of food being grilled; the smell of food made everything so much better as we ran around.
The game shops and tourist stores were also pretty cool, for me at least. While I was very much a tourist, Sasha made sure that I didn't blow my money on anything that could be bought cheaper locally.
"You know, it's kinda strange how quickly we snapped together," I said as we walked along the beach, now somewhat tired from our activities. "Not really, we get along pretty well. What's weird about that?" She said as I shrugged.
"So you already know where I'm from, but what about you?" I asked as we sat on a bench as she got a bit calmer. "I'm from California as well, at least I was born there. I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but I come from one of the few free areas left that aren't part of the United States, Night City."
The name sent a shiver down my spine as she kept talking. "They call it the city of dreams, where anyone can be anything. My mother always spoke about it with a faraway look in her eye, but I've never been. She says the news and the internet never tell the truth about Night City.
On the surface, it's all bright and full of opportunity, but the city is controlled at its core by several international corporations. At least what's left of them, still fighting among themselves in a world that's all but left them behind.
My mother was one of the few people to get out of Night City with her soul intact, that how she put it anyway. She's never gone back once, and never taken me, but she always speaks fondly of Night City, like a dream that follows you forever, not a bad one, but not an entirely good one either."
I let it all sink in, as the fact that Night City was real in this world sank in. It wasn't the most bizarre thing imaginable, but it was up there. I sighed and gently patted her shoulder. "Your mom sounds awesome. I'd love to meet her and hear more stories about Night City one day.
"Would you now, moving kinda fast, aren't you~" Sasha grinned as I rolled my eyes, somewhat used to her antics after an afternoon of them. She poked my side when I didn't get flustered, as I had throughout the day, as I jumped from the contact.
"Thanks for bringing me out today, Sasha. I've had a lot of fun." I said as we made our way back to the train station, we both lived on opposite sides of Musutafu and probably wouldn't see each other again until U.A, if we got in.
"Don't get all sappy on me just yet, tiger. We still have lots more fun waiting for us at U.A." She grinned as we parted ways and I returned to the Todorokis' house, where Fuyumi was up waiting for me.
"Looks like someone had a good day." She grinned as I felt my face heat up a bit. "Yeah, I met someone pretty cool during the entrance exam," I admitted as she smiled and called the others for dinner. Only Shoto and Natsuo joined us tonight as we ate Yakisoba, Miso salmon, and Yakitori.
After thanking Fuyumi for another great meal, I went to bed and organized the things I'd bought before going to sleep. Only three days left until we get our letter from U.A!
The next day, I spent training with Shoto as I used his ice to get used to using flames in unfavorable conditions. It was very uncomfortable but necessary if I wanted to grow, so I powered through it as my flames got hotter and burned brighter.
At lunch time, Fuyumi called us to eat, as once again Endeavor did not join us. "So what's it like having a pro-hero for a father? I'm guessing the house is usually quiet." Immediately, the air turned frigid as I winced, very smooth man. Fuyumi gave Shoto a look as she answered.
"Yes. For the most part, Father is busy with patrol and other hero duties, usually only coming home to sleep or eat. Even then, he usually stays at his agency." I could tell they really didn't want to keep talking about this, so I changed the subject.
"So what's it like being a school teacher? I've heard that the curriculum is much more intense compared to the U.S.," I asked Fuyumi as she perked up. "Yes, the students are given a higher workload, but it's balanced out with a longer school week, with shorter days. So rather than struggle for five days a week and eight hours a day, the students have school six days a week for six hours a day. This gives them a chance to better learn everything and not just memorize things."
I listened as she explained how students also had to keep the school building clean themselves, since there were no custodians keeping things clean. This was to teach them responsibility and cleanliness, while also encouraging teamwork to get the work done faster.
All in all, it was very interesting to learn about since Fuyumi herself was a teacher and so was exposed to all this. Eventually, they finished their meal, so I went out to explore Musutafu some more.
It had been interesting seeing everything with Sasha, but I wanted to explore a bit on my own to see things during the daytime. It was much calmer compared to nighttime, with more families and couples out and about rather than workers looking for a way to destress after work.
I took my time all day, exploring all the different shops and stores. My favorite thing had to be the 7-Elevens, though, just a magical land of food, drink, and other neat stuff. I'd already gotten a cool coffee cup AND a free cup of coffee with it, which lasted the rest of the day.
I was still trying to pace myself, though. Since I was still a minor, the State of California gave me an allowance for food and clothes, while the scholarship I got for U.A gave me a small stipend that I was to use for anything I might need, like extra uniforms.
I didn't have to worry too much, though, since most of it was covered by the scholarship, but I was still very tired by the time I got back to the house, where I found Shoto, Fuyumi, and Natsuo all sitting at the table, excited.
"You both got letters from U.A!" Fuyumi exclaimed as she handed him the golden envelope. It was heavier than I expected, but I took it to the table where Shoto had already opened his. 'Class 1-A, as expected.' I thought as I opened mine and set the small disc on the table, where a small hologram of Nezu appeared.
"Hello Micah!" Nezu said in English as the whole table leaned in. "I must say, you put on quite a show during the exam. Although you didn't perform as well during the written exam in certain areas, you passed both the written AND practical exam with flying colors!
So I welcome you to U.A's Heroics Program! Welcome to class 1-A, and your Hero Academia!"
As he finished speaking, a list appeared on screen with the leaderboard of all the students who took the general exam, and right at the top of the list was me?
