Chapter 33 - 33

Chapter 11: The Secret Lab and the Abyssal Whisper

The dimly lit office of Master Silas smelled of old parchment and ozone. When Leo placed the metallic chip—stained with the Hydra's blue ichor—onto the scanning table, the holographic displays turned a warning crimson.

"Vance Foundations," Silas whispered, his face hardening. "I suspected they were skirting the Alliance's ethics board, but to trigger a Monster Wave in a student-populated zone... that is high treason."

[SYSTEM: Decrypting Chip Data... 45%... 80%...]

[Data Decrypted: 'Project Chimera-G' – Target: Forced Evolution through Trauma.]

"Master," Leo said, his Sovereign's Insight pulsing. "The chip wasn't just recording. It was broadcasting a high-frequency distress signal. The Hydra was being driven mad by a sonic pulse from a nearby location."

Silas stood up, grabbing his Master-Breeder staff. "The signal is coming from an abandoned warehouse in the Grey District, just outside the Safe Zone. If they are experimenting on kidnapped pets, we don't have time to wait for the Alliance Enforcement. By the time the paperwork is signed, the evidence will be incinerated."

The Raid: Shadow and Void

Under the cover of a moonless night, Leo, Samuel, and Silas reached the warehouse. Silas placed a hand on the rusted steel door.

"I will handle the high-level security bots. Leo, Sam—your job is to find the containment cells. Free the beasts."

"On it," Leo whispered.

As they entered, the smell of chemicals and fear was overwhelming. Rows of glass tubes lined the walls, filled with stolen Spark-Pups, Wind-Falcons, and even a rare Crystal-Turtle. They were hooked up to machines that were forcefully draining their mana into a central vat.

[SYSTEM: Warning! Bio-Resonance Detected.]

[Target: Failed Pseudo-God Experiment (Grade-B Terror).]

The Chimera's Roar

In the center of the lab, a massive tank shattered. Out stepped a nightmare: a creature with the body of a lion, the wings of a bat, and three serpentine tails, all fused together with jagged metal plates. Its eyes were vacant, glowing with a forced, artificial purple light.

"It's... it's a Techno-Chimera," Samuel stammered, his Terra-Claw Raptor growling low.

"It's a slave," Leo corrected, his anger rising.

The Chimera lunged, its mechanical wings creating a sonic boom that cracked the laboratory floor.

"Sam, Tectonic Plate! Nova, Event Horizon!"

The Raptor slammed its claws down, creating a stone shield just as the Chimera's metallic claws struck. Nova, the Astro-Void Snail, pulsed with a deep violet light, sucking the Chimera's toxic breath into a miniature black hole before it could reach them.

"Amber, Solar-Flare Dash!"

The Two-Tailed Kitsune became a blur of white-hot fire, circling the Chimera to distract its three serpent tails.

The Sovereign's Mercy

Leo didn't want to kill it. He saw through the Insight that the creature's original mana-core—a noble Golden Lion—was still beating under the corruption.

"Nova, move me in! Void-Slip!"

Leo grabbed Nova's shell, and they phased through the air, appearing directly on the Chimera's back. He placed his hand on the jagged metal plate covering the beast's spine.

"System! Expend 3,000 Points! Skill: 'Sovereign's Restoration'!"

[DING!]

[3,000 System Points Consumed.]

[Effect: Forcing System Re-boot of the Beast's Core. Purging External Data.]

A wave of golden energy flowed from Leo's hand, traveling through the Chimera's body. The purple light in its eyes flickered and died, replaced by a soft, natural amber. The mechanical plates began to flake off like rusted skin.

The beast collapsed, no longer a monster, but a tired, rescued lion.

The Puppet Master's Shadow

"Impressive," a voice echoed from the lab's intercom.

On a large screen, the face of Lord Marcus Vance Sr. appeared. He wasn't panicked; he looked amused.

"Leo Heart. You truly are a 'Pioneer' descendant. You saved a prototype. But you've only delayed the inevitable. The 'Project' is already mobile. While you play hero in a warehouse, the First Fragment of the Void-Heart has already been located by my specialists in the SSS-Rank 'Abyssal Trench'."

"You won't get near it, Vance," Leo spat.

"Oh, we already have," Vance laughed. "See you at the Championship, Leo. Let's see if your 'Natural Breeding' can stand against the 'God' we've built."

The screen went black, and the lab's self-destruct sequence began to chime.

The Escape and the Vow

"We have to go! Now!" Silas shouted, having finished off the last of the security bots.

Leo and Samuel worked together, using Nova's Void-Slip and the Raptor's strength to teleport and carry the rescued pets out into the night just as the warehouse vanished in a controlled mana-implosion.

Standing in the cold night air, watching the smoke rise, Leo looked at his trembling hands.

"Master Silas," Leo said, his white hair glowing in the dark. "He has a fragment of Kael's heart."

Silas placed a hand on Leo's shoulder. "Then we don't just go to the Championship to win a trophy. We go to take back what belongs to the Void. It's time to train for the A-Rank Evolution, Leo. You're going to need more than just a fox and a snail for what's coming."

[DING!]

[Quest Updated: The Race for the Heart.]

[Objective: Evolve Nova and Amber to Grade-A before the Championship.]
