Chapter 32 - 32

Chapter 10: The Echo of the Abyss

The Alliance Research Wing was a cathedral of glass and silver, humming with the frequency of a thousand stabilized mana-cores. Unlike the messy, earthy feel of the Heart Ranch, this was the pinnacle of magical science.

"Welcome to the 'Eye of the Storm,' Leo," Master Silas said, gesturing to a private laboratory filled with floating holographic charts and containment fields. "Here, we don't just breed; we decode the language of the stars. Your Nebula Soul-Monarch is the first piece of a puzzle I've been working on for thirty years."

The First Lesson: Molecular Mana-Splicing

Silas didn't give Leo a textbook. He pointed to a microscopic grain of Star-Iron. "Most breeders think evolution is a vertical climb. They are wrong. It is a web. I want you to use your Insight to find the 'Ancestral Frequency' in this grain and sync it with your snail, Nova."

Leo closed his eyes.

[Target: Star-Iron Grain.]

[Frequency: 440hz (Void-Type).]

As Leo focused, a golden thread of mana stretched from his fingertip to the grain. In his mind, he saw a vision of a giant snail carrying a city on its back—the Primordial Ancestor.

"I see it, Master," Leo whispered. "The snail wasn't meant to be small. It was meant to be a World-Anchor."

Silas's eyes lit up. "Exactly! You've bypassed decades of study in a single breath. You aren't just a Breeder, Leo. You are a Regenerator."

The School Trip: The "D-Rank" Desolation

The next day, the academic atmosphere shifted to the rugged outdoors. The freshman class was standing before the Gorgon's Ravine, a Grade-D Dungeon known for its steep cliffs and aggressive reptilian life.

"This is a field study!" Dr. Aris announced. "Collect three types of mana-herbs and survive for four hours. This is not a simulation. If you fall, the Academy's rescue team will be your only hope."

Samuel walked beside Leo, his Terra-Claw Raptor (named Toro) looking alert. "D-Rank feels different, Leo. The air... it tastes like iron."

"It's the mana-saturation," Leo noted, his Sovereign's Insight scanning the ravine. "And something else. The monster density is 40% higher than the manual says."

The Monster Wave: The Serpent Surge

They hadn't been in the ravine for an hour when the ground began to vibrate. From the crevices of the cliffs, hundreds of Obsidian Vipers and Iron-Scale Lizards began to pour out. It wasn't a standard encounter; it was a Monster Wave.

"DEFENSIVE POSITIONS!" Dr. Aris screamed, but the students were panicking. Marcus Vance's Eagle was swarmed by three Vipers mid-air and forced to retreat.

"Sam! To the center!" Leo took charge. "Nova, Event Horizon! Amber, Solar-Flare Wall!"

The Astro-Void Snail expanded her shell's gravitational field, creating a "Dead Zone" where the vipers were crushed by their own weight. The Two-Tailed Kitsune streaked across the front line, her fire-trail creating a barrier of white-hot flame that the monsters couldn't cross.

"Toro, Tectonic Plate!" Sam commanded.

The Emerald Raptor slammed its claws into the earth, raising a wall of stone that shielded the weaker students.

The Sovereign's Command

A Massive Twin-Headed Hydra (Grade-C Elite) emerged from the depths of the wave, its eyes fixed on the students. It lunged, its venomous breath melting the rocks.

"Leo, it's too strong for us!" a student cried.

Leo didn't move. He felt a pulse on his wrist—Kael, the Void-Dragon, wanted to fight.

"Not yet, Kael," Leo whispered. Instead, he channeled his Sovereign's Aura.

[SYSTEM: Activating 'Overlord's Presence' (Passive).]

[Effect: 30% reduction in Enemy Attack Speed; 50% chance to Inflict 'Fear'.]

The Hydra froze. It looked at the 15-year-old boy with white hair and saw a mountain. It saw the shadow of the Void-Dragon Prince towering behind him.

"Nova, Void-Burst! Amber, Nova-Strike!"

The Snail blinked through space, appearing right between the Hydra's heads and releasing a shockwave of vacuum pressure. Simultaneously, the Fox turned into a spear of fire, piercing through the Hydra's central heart.

CRASH.

The Elite monster fell. The rest of the wave, sensing the death of their leader and the terrifying aura of the boy, scattered back into the crevices.

The Suspicious Discovery

As the class breathed a sigh of relief, Leo walked over to the Hydra's carcass. Using his Insight, he saw a strange, artificial glint in its throat. He reached in and pulled out a small, metallic chip with a familiar logo: V.F. (Vance Foundations).

"This wave wasn't natural," Leo whispered to Samuel. "It was triggered. They're testing 'Wave-Inducers' on us."

Samuel's face turned pale. "They tried to kill the whole class just to get back at you?"

"No," Leo said, looking at the chip. "They're testing how much power it takes to force an evolution. This is what Master Silas warned me about. The Forbidden Fusion isn't a theory anymore—it's already happening."

[DING!]
