Chapter 31 - 31

Chapter 9: The Butterfly Effect – Life from the Ashes

The final stage of the Junior Breeding License Exam was held in the "Life-Forge Hall," a high-tech laboratory with thousands of spectators watching from the balcony. Each candidate was presented with a container. Most held healthy, common pets like Iron-Rats or Fire-Chicks.

When Leo opened his container, a collective gasp echoed through the hall.

Inside lay a Limp-Winged Butterfly, its translucent wings tattered and dry. Its mana-core was flickering like a dying candle. It wasn't just "trash"; it was dying.

"This is a mistake!" Samuel shouted from the stands. "That pet has less than an hour to live!"

Marcus Vance laughed from three tables away, already preparing expensive lightning-stones for his Hawk. "Looks like the 'Genius' finally ran out of luck. Even a Heart can't breed a corpse."

The Sovereign's Decision

The Head Examiner, Master-Breeder Silas, looked down from the podium. "Candidate Leo Heart, due to a clerical error in the procurement of test subjects, you may request a replacement pet. This Butterfly is beyond medical help."

Leo looked at the small creature. With Sovereign's Insight, he saw what no one else could.

[SYSTEM: Analyzing Dying Subject...]

[Species: Phantom-Silk Butterfly (Mutated)]

[Status: Soul-Collapse (92% Complete)]

[Hidden Truth: This is not a common butterfly. It is a 'Void-Caterpillar' that failed its first evolution due to a lack of Spatial Essence.]

"I won't replace it," Leo said, his voice ringing through the silent hall. "A Breeder doesn't choose only the strong. We find the strength that others throw away."

The Miracle of the Void

Leo ignored the timers. He didn't use the standard Alliance nutrients. Instead, he pulled a small vial of Moon-Shadow Salt from his pocket and bit his own thumb, letting a drop of his blood—rich with the Void-Dragon's resonance—fall onto the butterfly.

"System, spend 1,500 Points. Enchantment: Soul-Anchor. Activate Path: 'Nebula Monarch'."

[DING!]

[1,500 System Points Consumed.]

[Triggering Primordial Evolution: Death-to-Life Inversion.]

Leo began a complex mana-circulation. He didn't try to heal the wings; he let them wither away entirely.

"He's killing it!" someone screamed.

But as the wings crumbled into dust, a brilliant violet cocoon formed around the butterfly's body. The air in the hall began to vibrate. The Void-Drifter Snail on Leo's shoulder pulsed in sync with the cocoon.

CRACK.

The cocoon shattered. Out flew a creature that defied the laws of the Alliance. It had four wings made of shimmering, starlight-infused silk. Everywhere it flew, it left a trail of silver dust that healed the nearby plants in the hall.

[Evolved Species: Nebula Soul-Monarch (Grade-B / Rare)]

[Ability: 'Stardust Restoration' – Can heal the mana-cores of other pets.]

The dying insect had become a Grade-B miracle.

The Invitation of a Master

The hall was dead silent until Master Silas stood up and began to clap. Soon, the entire audience followed.

"Perfect Distinction," Silas announced, his voice trembling with emotion. "In forty years, I have never seen a 'Death-Inversion' evolution executed by a Junior."

After the ceremony, as Leo was receiving his Gold-Trimmed Junior License, Silas approached him privately in the garden.

"Leo Heart," Silas said, bowing slightly—a shocking gesture from a Master-Breeder. "I am Silas Thorne. I have spent my life searching for the 'Ancient Harmony' in breeding. Today, you didn't just pass an exam; you showed me a path I thought was lost."

Silas looked at Leo with genuine kindness. "I am the Head of the Alliance Research Wing. I would like to formally invite you to be my Personal Disciple. I have no interest in your family name—only in your hands and your heart. I can give you access to the Forbidden Archives and materials that even the Heart Guild cannot find."

Leo looked at the older man. Through his Insight, he saw that Silas's soul was steady and righteous, filled with a pure love for beasts.

"I accept, Master Silas," Leo said, bowing back. "I have much to learn about this world's hidden history."

"Good," Silas smiled, handing him a silver badge with a dragon-eye insignia. "Our first lesson starts tomorrow. We are going to investigate the SSS-Rank 'Abyssal Trench' records. I believe your new 'Butterfly' and that 'Snail' of yours are the keys to a door I've been trying to open for decades."
