Chapter 11 - The Abyssal Depths

The flight back from the Pacific was quiet. I spent most of the time staring out the window, turning the Sands of Eternity over in my hands. The silver sand inside swirled and flowed, sometimes moving up, sometimes down, as if it had a mind of its own. With this, the Eye of the Storm, and the Heart of Nature, I felt like I was gathering the very building blocks of reality itself.

But I also knew what this meant. The Syndicate was getting more desperate. They had tried fire, ice, storms, and now time. If they were willing to mess with history, there was no depths they wouldn't sink to.

We landed back at headquarters just as the sun was setting. Before I could even take off my jacket, Dr. Sato was already waving us toward the main screen.

"We don't have time to rest," she said, her voice tight. "Another rift has flared up. And this one... it's right in our backyard."

She pointed to the map. It was located deep in the waters of Manila Bay, near the coast of the Philippines. But the energy signature wasn't like anything we'd seen before. It was dark, deep, and incredibly heavy.

"The realm is called Luminius, the Ocean of Stars," Aiko explained, pulling up the files. "But locals call it the Abyssal Depths. It's a world made entirely of water, but the water glows. It's home to ancient civilizations that live beneath the surface, and creatures that are older than memory."

"Why is it dangerous?" I asked, strapping Hana into her waterproof carrier. She seemed excited, her tail flicking back and forth.

"Because the pressure is immense," Dr. Sato warned. "And because the Syndicate has been there before. They tried to harvest the energy, but they failed. They left something behind. Something dangerous. The readings show massive amounts of Void Corruption pooling at the bottom."

"So we're going to clean it up?" I asked.

"And find the Core," Aiko nodded. "The Heart of the Tides. If we can get it, you'll have control over water and life itself. Rizu... you're becoming incredibly powerful. Soon, you might be strong enough to challenge the Syndicate headquarters directly."

My stream was already live as we boarded the speedboat that would take us out to the coordinates. The night sea was calm, but in the distance, I could see it. The water was glowing with a faint, bioluminescent blue light, spreading out like an oil spill.

[ilikecatslol6767]: OMG UNDERWATER REALM??? IS HANA GONNA SWIM??? 🐱💦

[womanizer796901]: BRO IS ABOUT TO GO FULL ARIEL MODE LMAO 🧜‍♂️✨

[sigmafalcon]: DEEP SEA EDITION LETS GOOOO 🌊🌊

"Minna-san," I said into the mic, smiling. "Tonight we're diving into the deep. They say there are cities down there that have been forgotten for thousands of years. Let's see what secrets they hold."

The rift wasn't in the air this time. It was beneath the waves. A swirling vortex of glowing water that led down, down, down into the unknown.

"Ready?" Aiko asked, putting on her helmet which supplied her with air.

"Ready."

I took a deep breath and jumped in.

The moment I entered the realm, something amazing happened. I expected to feel water filling my lungs, but I didn't. I could breathe perfectly normally. The water around me was clear, warm, and filled with light. It was like being inside a giant aquarium filled with stars.

I looked around. We were floating in a vast, endless ocean. Above us, the surface glowed like a second sky. Below us, massive structures stretched into the darkness. Coral reefs that looked like skyscrapers, towers made of pearl and giant seashells, and forests of seaweed that swayed gently in the current.

"It's..." I breathed out, my voice traveling clearly through the water. "It's so beautiful. Look at the colors."

[ilikecatslol6767]: EVERYTHING IS GLOWINGGGGG IT LOOKS LIKE AVATAR 🦈🌺

[womanizer796901]: BRO IS LITERALLY WALKING ON THE SEA FLOOR LMAO

Hana jumped out of her carrier. Instead of sinking, she started swimming effortlessly, her body surrounded by a small bubble of air. She looked like a little shark, darting around happily.

As we swam downward, the scenery changed. The light got dimmer, turning into deep blues and purples. And then, we saw them.

The ruins.

Huge stone pillars covered in moss and barnacles, statues of gods with fish tails, and roads paved with white sand that led toward a massive palace in the distance. But as we got closer, the water turned murky. Black oil-like sludge started floating around us.

And then, the creatures appeared.

They weren't beautiful fish anymore. They were twisted, corrupted versions of sea life—sharks with too many teeth, eels made of shadow, crabs with metal claws. They were the result of the Syndicate's pollution.

"Watch out!" Aiko shouted, firing a warning shot.

The monsters lunged at us. But I didn't want to kill them. They were just sick.

I closed my eyes and reached out. I imagined purity. I imagined clean waves.

The Eye of the Storm around my neck glowed, and I pushed the energy out. A shockwave of clear, sparkling light expanded from me. Where it touched, the black sludge dissolved, and the corrupted monsters shook themselves, their bodies turning back into normal, beautiful fish that swam away peacefully.

[womanizer796901]: PURIFICATION W AGAIN!!! RIZU IS THE HEALER MAIN 🩺💙

[ilikecatslol6767]: SO POWERFUL BUT SO KIND I LOVE HIM 😭😭

We continued deeper until we reached the center of the city. There, in a massive open courtyard, stood a palace made of crystal. And in the center, floating above a throne of coral, was the Core.

The Heart of the Tides.

It was a giant, pulsating pearl that glowed with soft white light, radiating warmth and life.

But it was chained.

Heavy, dark metal chains wrapped around it, sucking the energy out and pumping it into dark canisters. And standing there, overseeing the operation, was someone I hadn't seen in a while.

Commander Vane.

He turned as we arrived, his expression cold and unamused. He wasn't wearing his mask. He looked like a normal man, but his eyes were empty.

"Ah," he said smoothly. "The little collector arrives. You really do have a knack for showing up where you aren't wanted, Rizu."

"Vane!" I swam forward, pointing at the chains. "Stop this! You're draining the life out of this world! Can't you see you're killing it?!"

"Killing it?" He scoffed, walking closer. The water around him seemed to turn cold and dark. "I am utilizing it. This 'world' is nothing but a reservoir of pure hydrogen and energy. With this, we can create infinite power. We can purify our world. Why should we care about some fish and coral?"

"Because they're alive!" I yelled, anger rising in my chest. "They have feelings! They have a history! You're just a thief! You take everything and give nothing back!"

"I take what is necessary for progress," Vane replied coldly. "And now... I think I'll take what you have too. Give me the Sands of Time, boy. Hand over the Eye of the Storm. Or I will drown you in the deepest trench imaginable."

"Never!"

I raised my hand, and suddenly, the water around us exploded into motion. I didn't just control the flow; I commanded the very pressure of the ocean.

BOOM!

A massive whirlpool formed around us, spinning violently. The Syndicate soldiers were thrown around like toys, unable to stand against the current.

"What?!" Vane stumbled back, surprised. "How are you manipulating the water this easily?!"

"Because this place accepts me!" I shouted, swimming forward. "It knows I'm here to help! And it's going to help me kick you out!"

The battle underwater was unlike anything else. Vane fired beams of crushing pressure, trying to flatten me. I dodged them by speeding up time, moving faster than the eye could see, using the Sands of Eternity to blink around the battlefield.

I summoned walls of solid water that hardened like ice. I sent waves that hit like trucks. Vane was strong, incredibly strong, but he was fighting against the entire ocean. And the ocean was on my side.

"ENOUGH!" Vane roared, pulling out a strange device. "If I can't have the power... NO ONE CAN!"

He threw the device at the Core. It was a bomb. A Void Bomb.

[ilikecatslol6767]: NOOOOOO DONT LET IT HIT THE CORE!!!

[womanizer796901]: SACRIFICE PLAY RIZU!!! TAKE THE HIT!!!

I didn't think. I just moved.

I threw myself in front of the Core, wrapping my body around it just as the bomb exploded.

Black energy washed over me. It felt like being frozen and burned at the same time. It tried to seep into my skin, to corrupt me, to turn my light into darkness.

But then... something happened.

The mark on my shoulder didn't just glow. It burned. And not just my mark. The relics I carried—the Eye, the Sands, the Heart—they all activated at once.

A blinding light erupted from my body. It wasn't just one element. It was all of them combined. Wind, Time, Nature, and now Water.

The light pushed the darkness away instantly. The chains around the Core snapped and broke. The corruption in the water was purified in seconds, turning the entire abyss bright and clear.

Vane was thrown back, hit by the sheer force of my aura. He stared at me, his eyes wide with fear for the first time.

"This... this power..." he stammered. "You aren't just a Pathfinder. What are you?!"

"I am the guardian," I said, my voice echoing with power. "And you are not welcome here."

I raised my hand, and a giant pillar of water rose up, launching Vane and his remaining men straight up toward the surface, blasting them out of the rift and back into our world.

The danger was over.

I floated there, exhausted, holding onto the Core. It pulsed gently against my chest, warm and safe.

Slowly, the water around me cleared. And from the shadows of the palace, figures began to emerge.

They were mermen and mermaids, beautiful beings with skin like pearls and hair like seaweed. They swam toward me, bowing their heads.

At the front was a woman with long, flowing blue hair and eyes like the deep ocean. She was the Queen.

'You have saved us, young warrior,' her voice echoed in my mind, soft and melodic. 'We have slept for centuries, waiting for someone who understood the balance. You have proven yourself worthy.'

She held out her hand, and a small, blue gem appeared. It looked like a drop of ocean trapped in crystal.

'This is the Heart of the Tides. With this, you shall command the flow of life and water. Wherever you go, you shall never thirst, and you shall never drown.'

I took the gem. It felt perfect in my hand, completing the set.

"Thank you," I whispered.

The Queen smiled, and gestured around her. 'Rise, Guardian of the Four Elements. Your journey is far from over, but now... you are ready.'

I swam back up to the surface, emerging into the night air of our world. Aiko and the others were waiting, looking at me with awe.

"You..." Aiko shook her head, smiling. "You literally just became an element bender. Rizu... you're unstoppable now."

I looked at my hands. They were still glowing faintly. I felt stronger than ever. Connected to everything.

[ilikecatslol6767]: I AM ACTUALLY SOBBING THAT WAS SO EPIC 😭😭🙏🙏

[womanizer796901]: HE HAS ALL THE ORBS NOW... THE FINAL FORM IS NEAR 🗣️🔥🔥

[goonercouncil]: SYNDICATE BETTER WATCH OUT RIZU IS COMING FOR THEIR HQ

I walked back to the camera, the water dripping off my clothes, but I didn't feel cold. I felt alive.

"Minna-san," I said, looking into the lens. "We did it. We saved Luminius. And now... we have the power of the Ocean."

I held up the four relics—Storm, Forest, Time, and Tide.

"The Syndicate thinks they can rule by fear and greed," I said firmly. "But they are wrong. Power isn't about taking. It's about protecting. And we are only getting started."

"Next time... we take the fight to them."
