Chapter 10 - Threads of destiny

The quiet hum of sewing machines and the soft rustling of fabric filled the small studio that Vee had created in her temporary space. She had spent the last few days away from Rui, giving herself space to think. Her mind felt heavy, but here, in the studio, surrounded by the delicate touch of fabric and thread, Vee found a sense of clarity she couldn't get anywhere else.

She pulled a piece of soft, pale blue fabric from the stack, running her fingers over its smooth surface. It was a fabric she had carefully selected weeks ago, one she knew would make the perfect dress. The design had been in her head for days, but now, as she stared at the fabric, it all seemed to fall into place. Every cut, every stitch, it was as if she could see the dress unfolding before her.

Fashion was more than just a career for Vee; it was her passion, her escape. When she was at the sewing machine, cutting fabric, or even sketching out designs, she felt like she was in control. There were no expectations from anyone else. No one telling her what to do or what path to follow. It was just her and the fabric, creating something beautiful, something uniquely hers.

But lately, her passion for fashion had felt tangled with the uncertainties of her life. As much as she loved designing, she couldn't ignore the pull of her family's expectations. They wanted her to follow a traditional path finish her education, return home, take up a safe, respectable job. It was what they had planned for her. But Vee had always known that was never what she truly wanted.

Sitting at her desk, surrounded by sketches and fabric, Vee found herself lost in thought again. Her phone buzzed on the table next to her, pulling her back to reality. The name flashing on the screen made her stomach flip. It was her father.

With a sigh, she answered the call. "Hi, Dad."

"Vee, it's time. You've had enough fun, but it's time to come home and am serious about it, " her father's voice came through, authoritative and firm. "We've been talking about your future, and it's time for you to step into the life we've built for you."

Vee felt a wave of frustration surge through her. She had heard these words a thousand times before. But this time, they hit differently. She glanced at the sketches she had scattered across the desk, the designs that felt more like her than anything else in her life. The future her father envisioned for her seemed miles away from this creative world she had come to love.

"I've been thinking, Dad," she said slowly, her voice steady despite the storm inside her. "I don't know if I can just step into the life you've planned for me. I'm not sure I want that anymore."

There was a long silence on the other end of the line, and Vee could almost hear her father's disapproving sigh. "Vee, don't be foolish. You need to take responsibility, build your future. You're not going to get anywhere with those... designs, being in the fashion industry is tiresome and draining."

Her chest tightened at his words, but she forced herself to keep calm. "Dad, I'm not asking you to understand. But I'm not going to let you dictate my life anymore. I want to create something for myself. I want to be a fashion designer. I want to build my own future, not the one you've chosen for me, but the one I love and am happy about."

There was another silence, this one filled with tension. "You're making a mistake," her father said, his voice cold. "You'll regret this."

Vee's heart ached, but she knew what she had to do. She couldn't live her life for someone else. Not anymore.

"I'll talk to you later and am gonna prove you wrong someday," she said, her voice firm. "But for now, I need to focus on what's important to me."

She ended the call before her father could respond, her heart pounding in her chest. The weight of her decision hung heavy on her, but for the first time, she felt a sense of relief. She was finally standing up for herself.

As Vee looked at the designs on the desk, she knew she was at a crossroads. The path her father wanted for her seemed easier, more secure. But the path she was choosing, was one filled with uncertainty and passion was the one that would make her feel alive.

She took a deep breath, picking up her sketchpad and pencil. She started to sketch the outline of a dress, her hand moving fluidly, as if it knew exactly where to go. The lines were clean, the design bold and fresh. It was everything she had ever wanted in her life....freedom, creativity, and control over her own life.

In that moment, Vee knew that the future was hers to shape. And she would create something beautiful, just like the designs that filled her mind. This was happiness for her." Cheers to a future I love and to a future filled with lessons. Anyway one step at a time." She shouted in her mind.
