The days that followed their dinner felt like a dream to Vee. Each one seemed to blur into the next, filled with moments of laughter, quiet conversations, and shared experiences. She was still getting used to the idea of being with Rui, but it wasn't as terrifying as it had once seemed. In fact, it was... comforting that she forgot about everything that didn't matter.
But with every comfort came a new uncertainty. Vee had known from the start that relationships weren't easy, and this one was still in its early stages, and it was no different. She found herself wondering how long this sense of peace would last. Would she always feel like she was walking on air, or would reality eventually catch up with them?
One afternoon, Vee found herself at a coffee shop, sketching designs for a new project she was working on. She'd been given a big opportunity...an internship with one of the top fashion houses in the city, and it was taking up most of her time. She loved it, but it was also overwhelming. There were deadlines to meet, meetings to attend, and expectations to fulfill. And while she was excited, there was a part of her that was also scared. Scared that her dreams might slip away from her if she didn't keep pushing forward.
As she sipped her coffee, her phone buzzed. It was a text from Rui.
"Hey, I was thinking we could spend some time together this weekend. Just the two of us. I know you're busy, but we could grab lunch or something. May be I can cook for you if you don't wanna go out. Let me know."
Vee smiled at the message, her heart warming. It had been a few days since they'd last seen each other, and while she had loved the space they'd given each other, a part of her missed him. She had been so focused on her work and the whirlwind of life around her that she hadn't realized how much she enjoyed spending time with him.
"Sounds good. I'll be free Saturday afternoon. Let's do lunch at your place maybe ,since you offered to cook. I also wanna taste your cooking so bad."
She hit send before putting her phone down and getting back to her designs. But as she worked, a nagging thought crept into her mind.
What if she wasn't ready for this? What if she couldn't juggle her career and a relationship at the same time?
The thought made her stomach twist. She had always prided herself on her independence, and now, with Rui entering the picture, it felt like that independence was at risk. She didn't want to lose herself in a relationship, but she also didn't want to push him away.
Saturday arrived, and Vee found herself standing in front of the mirror, getting ready for her lunch date with Rui. She had spent the morning working on her latest project, but now she was taking the time to look her best. It wasn't about impressing him, it was about feeling good in her own skin. She slipped into a simple yet elegant dress, something that made her feel confident but still like herself.
When she met Rui at his house, she was relieved to find that he looked just as excited to see her as she was to see him. His smile was genuine, and there was no awkwardness between them, just the easy camaraderie they had built over the past few weeks.
As they sat down at the table, the conversation flowed effortlessly. They talked about their days, their dreams, and their shared experiences. But despite the comfort of their connection, Vee couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. There was a heaviness in the air, something unspoken that lingered between them.
"So, how's the internship going?" Rui asked, sipping his coffee as he looked at her with concern.
"It's going well," Vee replied, but her voice betrayed her unease. "It's just... a lot. I'm really excited about it, but it's also a bit overwhelming. There's so much to do, and I'm trying to keep up with everything. I just don't want to disappoint myself and everyone who believes in me , you know?"
Rui's expression softened, and he reached across the table to take her hand. "You don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, Vee. You're doing great. Just take it one step at a time."
Vee squeezed his hand, feeling the comfort of his words wash over her. But there was still a part of her that didn't want to admit just how much pressure she was under. She didn't want to burden him with her stress. But he wasn't the kind of guy who would walk away from her, no matter how hard things got. And that scared her, because for the first time in a long while, she was afraid to lean on someone else.
The rest of the lunch passed in a blur. Vee laughed at Rui's jokes, listened intently as he shared stories about his work, and tried her best to push the anxiety out of her mind. But as they finished their meal, the weight of the conversation they had just had hung between them, and Vee knew that she couldn't keep pretending everything was fine.
As they stood outside at the porch, she turned to Rui, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Rui," she said, her voice quiet but steady. "I need to be honest with you. I'm scared. I'm scared of failing. Of not being enough."
Rui's expression softened, and he took a step closer to her. "You are more than enough, Vee. You've always been enough. Don't let fear hold you back from what you want. I'm here for you, no matter what."
Vee looked into his eyes, feeling a warmth spread through her. Maybe she didn't have all the answers. Maybe she didn't know what the future would look like. But in this moment, she knew one thing for sure: she was ready to take a chance on them. Ready to step into the unknown with him by her side.
