Chapter 36 - Learning to Nurture a Core

"Although you are unable to currently nurture a new core--obviously, because your current core isn't stable enough--still, I'd like to at least give you a run down on how it will go."

Koji paid much attention to the words spoken from Lin's lips, after all it was one of many tools he would need for his journey.

"So how exactly do I do that?"

Lin had already told Koji years back, but of course he would have to remind him of it now.

"For starters, one must have a Relic and Zelit--mind you, both must be of Minor class. To start the process, you must pour 9% of your Li and Zi energy per second into the Relic, and yes--it must be 9% for stability. After the fulfillment of this, you must release 5% every second from the Relic. Finally, you must absorb it with a Zelit at 2% every second."

"Yes, all must be concentrated on at the same time; it is not an easy task."

Lin spoke--seriousness being the most prevalent emotion shown in his words, and especially on his face. Lin was a joker at times but when it came to teaching Koji these concepts, he was nothing of the such. He couldn't be--what kind of teacher doesn't teach with conviction, with respect? It would be outlandish for him to make a joke of these concepts.

Meanwhile, Koji's attitude reflected the same aspects of Lin's

'Hmm, interesting; obviously, this will be troubling. Damn, if only I could get my hands on some monsters...'

How convenient that would be with his knowledge of the Soul Mantra; this gift of knowledge was like a gift wrapped with a snake coiled around it. It may seem fruitful at first, but Koji couldn't access it at all! Showing this knowledge would be like picking at the snake, others would only hurt him for it.

Koji was trapped; he was unable to ask too many questions about Soul Mantra--already due to it's rarity, but if he started showing sudden knowledge, who knows all the tragedies that may befall him?

Which is why he had to stay silent, and cope with the fact he would be forced to execute his plans the slower, although safer way.

His brows furrowed, and his dark iris's shined with new curiosity--indeed, Koji had more questions; ones that must be answered! He wouldn't hesitate to ask them for a second.

"So how do I practice for it?"

'This could be huge, if I can prepare for this then my time nurturing a new core--though, still most likely a grueling experience, will be much smoother!'

"Well, you can start by simply taking a Relic--pouring 9% of energy into it every second, and that's it. It's that simple; well, for the first step at least."

'Stupid Lin! Of course he explains it like it's easy but then adds on that last comment, oh shall you be punished to the depths of hell you demon! Hehehe, it matters not; I shall do as he says and soon--dare I say, within months I will be completely prepared to start nurturing a new core!'

Koji had resumed with his rather--well, the only words to describe his behavior would be erratic, maybe eccentric.

"Well then give me a Relic!"

Lin was slightly annoyed at Koji's demanding and disrespectful tone; however, he couldn't deny his desire to see Koji start training--eventually becoming ready to nurture a new core before most kids ever even start their training for it. Lin had fostered a care for Koji, which was natural due to the years they have spent together.

If only he knew that Koji, who seemed to be just a child, was actually a teenager from earth. A teenager who had been deceiving him this whole time, lying of his identity. Truly, was Koji's life nothing but fake.

Maybe Koji can live on like this, or maybe he won't be able to. He speaks of making Ivory his lover, but how could she reciprocate her love for someone that is simply a facade? Every clown breaks character, every performer messes up once, every hole--no matter the depth, always has an ending.

Deep down, through Koji's wild self--through the immense confidence in his goal, this problem still resides. He knows it, and ignores it; however, even the most stoic of kings cannot ignore the clown at their side. Because that is what this secret is--a clown, a jester at his side mocking his goal, mocking his fake relationships with his new family; yes, it mocks everything!

"Fine, okay Koji--just wait, and tomorrow I shall get you an appropriate Relic to practice with. In the meantime, there is something else of much concern."

"What is it?"

Lin suddenly smiled, a contrasting look to his earlier serious expression. His large lips made the shape of a V when spread out, and his teeth shined in the sun.

"Today is Monday, Koji. Do you know what happens on Mondays?"

Koji's dark eyes, which seemed like a void, became even darker. His expression went from seriousness to hopelessness instantly.

'I-I have to duel the devil again!'

--

Standing opposite of each other, were two children--Koji, who was nine, and Ivory who was 11.

Ivory's white hair swayed in the wind; her pale face had a look of pure determination and her dark green eyes gleamed with violent intent. Though, even through her seriousness her childlike innocence shined through the facade--this was the cause of her facing off against Koji! Despite her determination, she loved dueling Koji--simply because she felt happy around him. Therefore, although this may be a battle, for Ivory it was just a fun experience she got to spend with Koji.

The former could not be said for Koji.

'She's gonna destroy me! This devil, how can I beat her? She's like a combat goddess! Think Koji, think; yes, I must adapt to the situation. Technique, strength, both are useless--unless, of course, I adapt to hers! What good is my technique, obviously it is inferior to hers--because of this, I must adapt to hers; when faced with a boulder being launched at them, would one throw the rock they have in their hand at it? No! One would simply dodge. Although you may prepare with a rock, usually you must dodge.'

With that, the fight began!
