Chapter 40 - Face-Off Between Fathers (3)

"Ivan, what are you doing?!"

Mei scurried over, her slender legs running across the field to the scene of combat where Ivan had just about to have been the winner of this encounter.

'M-Mei? No, you aren't supposed to come out yet--only once I'm finished. Only once I deal with the cockroach.'

Ivan's plan to deal with this cockroach was now interrupted by the very person he was doing this for. A cockroach--yes, Ivan fully believes Lin is just a roach; in every single context: The way he is disgusting with his morally superior act, the way he is as harmless as anyone else to Ivan, and how annoying he is.

Lin, simply is a bug to be stepped on--though, Ivan didn't want to simply step on him; he wanted to stomp on him.

However, cockroaches, no matter how disgusting they are--they have one strength, and that is that they are hard to kill.

Except this cockroach's ability to survive wasn't based on any physical traits, but the world itself.

When the world sends an interruption, how could Ivan ignore it?

A protection wrapped in the beautiful body of Mei--yes, in Ivan's eyes, Mei was the cockroaches salvation.

'You... No! I can't let this fight be decided by a third party--no, this isn't acceptable! Letting this fall out of my own hands, no I cannot trust her hands! I cannot trust the very hands I swore to protect.'

The outcome of the fight not being decided by Ivan himself would be unacceptable.

That's all Ivan wants really--utter control of every factor.

'Mei, just leave! Just leave!'

Ivan's eyes beamed with a new emotion--that emotion was panic. Yes, though his life may not be at risk, his control was at risk.

'If she stops this fight, maybe she'll side with Lin--if this fight stops, and she determines it's outcome, how can I trust her to side with me? What if she leaves me, thinks I'm utterly insane!?'

Light cascaded over Ivan's white hair--however, his face contrasted that with his dark expression.

"Mei, your husband has gone berserk!"

Lin couldn't resist anymore; due to the situation, if he didn't change things quickly and get Ivan to calm down, he would for sure be Ivan's victim.

He could feel the foot over his head about to squash him.

"Really? Ivan has gone insane? Maybe you shouldn't have provoked him. I trust him, and I trust that what he's doing is due to a valid reason--though, I wouldn't want him getting his hands dirty."

"Ivan, please stop attacking Lin.... All it will bring are issues."

Mei felt no pity for Lin, and fully believed Ivan's actions were warranted--after all, he was her husband; she was not going to simply believe Lin's reasoning over her husbands actions. He could easily just be exaggerating the truth and trying to save his ass; however, she also knew that Ivan hurting Lin may cause trouble with the law and ultimately decided it wasn't worth the risk.

The cockroach, who was just about to be trampled on had gotten away.

'She... No, she doesn't understand! He will just come back like the cockroach he is. But--I can't do anything, if she witnesses me hurt him after deciding it wasn't worth it, her judgement of me may be swayed; I have to give up.'

Ivan lowered his leg and relaxed his body--though, he still was very reluctant; of course he would be, because in his mind Lin deserved to be squashed like a bug. He simply was just a nuisance who would show up again and again if he was not delt with sooner or later.

The atmosphere was still tense, something like this would not end with no changes--a new path for Koji was about to be carved--one he had to tread on no matter how much he hated it.

...

'What just happened? My dad... Ivan really just did that because Lin disrespected me? Usually, such a thing I would say isn't warranted--though, it feels nice he went that far for me and of course, his wife Mei. However, looking at it without personal bias--him fighting Lin over that was really unnecessary, oh shit! How is Lin gonna react!? If he leaves then Ivory--Ivory will leave!'

Koji twisted quickly to stare down at Ivory's sleeping figure, and his eyes widened his desperation and fear--fear of losing Ivory, fear of his plans being completely disrupted! He had made up his mind over and over about making Ivory his future lover, and now she may be gone! This situation, it really was horrible for Koji.

Unless Koji could somehow fix the situation, then it would cause a massive difference in his life--this difference, though Koji may tell himself he is prepared for anything, it was something that he was not willing to accept!

'No, no... If Ivory leaves me, what will I do? Just find another girl, no--this isn't good at all! Ivory is supposed to be the one, Ivory is who I planned for. Not only that, but who is going to teach me when Lin isn't around? Fuck! Come on, I need a fix for this situation... Though, even if I do fix it--who is to say Ivory won't hate me for what I did?'

'This really is my fault... My pride, my ego--it destroyed my peaceful situation; I can't blame it on my father, truly his actions may be unnecessary--though, they are predictable and only happened because I went out of line.'

Koji brought his hands up to his face, and looked at them as if they were the only thing he could currently see.

'I-I really am a disgrace. How did I turn such a small situation into a catastrophe? Really, I can't even deal with such a small thing! Tck... Wait.'

'Even if Ivory leaves, she will still be going to the academy... When I am 13 I will be able to meet her again--no, this is still bad. She may forget about me; after all it is four years of no contact..'

However, that was not even the worst outcome.

'What if she simply finds a new man? By time I get there she would have already been there for two years wouldn't she? During that time she could easily find someone else...'

'This simply can't happen! This is unacceptable, Lin has to stay!'

However, things didn't always go according to plan--some things, although they may be unacceptable--in the end, they would still happen. Whether or not one could adapt and withstand such a change would be up to them, and now--that very thing would befall Koji.

"Mrs. Mei, I resign--I cannot continue teaching Koji."
