David awoke inside of the infirmary. On top of his searing headache, a man a knocked him out. His head was throbbing like crazy even now. He blinked heavily put a hand to his head.
"For people who keep us in captivity, they make it evident they do not care for your livelihood."
"Eh, I think it's an unfortunate fact that they do. Just enough to not let us kill each other."
A voice to the right of him spoke.
David turned to see who it was. Even as his vision was hindered, it hurt to do anything besides lay back down, he recognized Ace instantly.
He was sitting in a chair they he had definitely moved to get between his bed and someone else's. Once he noticed David awoke, he stood up and walked over to him.
"You alright?…I'll admit, I didn't know what you were gonna pull out of your ass, and even then you surprised me."
David squinted his eyes and resisted the urge to close them entirely. "So you're no longer angry at me now?"
"Hey, we can't hold grudges forever. It's more than enough they you were willing to right your wrongs. But that's just my opinion and I'm not the one you should apologize to."
Ace moved to the right, giving David room to see the person on the other bed. Alex was there, looking better than before. Signs of injury were still evident, mainly wraps around his forearms and shoulder, but taken away a few bruises and he started to look okay.
A bit optimistic of a description, but David was honestly glad he was even awake at this point.
His head hung slightly lower as he recalled his mistakes.
"…My bad. Trying to ally with you has put you in danger due to my recklessness. Assuming they would only go for me was me refusing to accept I had endangered everyone. I didn't want to believe I made a decision so dumb."
Alex gave a serious look at him, before bursting into laughter
David raised an eyebrow, then looked to ace, who also shrugged his shoulders.
Alex simply waved it all away. "I'm not used to seeing you like that, my bad. Just know that I forgive you. Ace told me about how you tried to kill The guy, so were just about even.
Besides, it was a good way to shake off some of that nervousness I was feeling. Almost dying has that affect I guess. I just need one more thing from you."
David had brought his head back up, now confused. "What would that favor be?"
"Do everything in your power to make sure we get out of here Scott free. No sacrifice, no compromise."
"The point of our conversation was that I was talking about a worse case scenario. Ace…are you not supposed to be in the tournament?"
Ace shrugged his shoulders. "I forfeited. My teammate was hospitalized before the second half and the only other person I cared about was knocked out cold. I didn't much care for it after that."
David sighed. "Now we have other problems."
Ace: "And what will that be?"
David pointed to the window of the infirmary. There Ace looked to see two men in suits staring at them, more accurately at David.
"This is the reason why I didn't want to reveal my Ability. Now I'm a high profile candidate for whatever this program is. I don't know when they are making their move, but I have a guess that I won't be in the same area as you guys much longer."
Taking this in, Ace realized this could be plausible. 'It's probably a more elite form of training that somehow is above the stuff we already have.'
David had thoughts of his own as well. 'I don't have much time. Days at most.' He looked over at the bed that was covered with a sheet.
David beckoned Ace over and requested he he help him keep balance. With that, he got up and walked over to where Nelson was. Before they got close enough, he had already moved the sheets.
Nelson, while injured with wraps around his face, he still seemed in a better mood. "And what is it you've come back for?" While it sounded a bit rude, Nelson was intrigued.
The first offer he came to him with wasn't bad at all. Watching that idiot get humbled was the highlight of his entire week, So he wouldn't mind more interactions.
"Nelson love, after you get out I was thinking maybe you'd like to join our little club? No doubt it'll be good to have powerful friends."
He nodded. "I'm not seeing any downsides at the moment, so I'll consider it. My only question is, are you the only powerful member? I've not seen what you're friends can do."
Ace chuckled. "It seems I'll have to stand out too then." With David about to be transferred elsewhere, Nelson unsure of his power, the group wa already being split. It was time to draw attention it seemed.
'Fury, I hope your hungry for some action.'
