Chapter 34: The Third Spiritual Vein
Alicia floated above her world, mentally scanning the land.
Forests? Check.
Plains? Check.
Spiritual Veins? Two established, one more needed.
"…Highlands it is, then," she muttered, rubbing her nonexistent chin. Well, if she had a face, she'd be smirking.
She tapped into the system, "Show me… the Highlands."
A translucent map appeared midair, outlining a rugged mountain region far to the north. Spiritual energy readings spiked immediately.
"Ah, not exactly a cozy vacation spot," Alicia muttered. "Rocky, steep, windy… basically a perfect nightmare for a planetary core."
But there was work to be done. She focused her Life Energy, letting the Spiritual Vein seed sprout beneath the mountains. Small golden threads of energy threaded through the rock, forming a lattice that would stabilize over time.
As she concentrated, a fox she had previously observed pranced nearby, tilting its head curiously. Alicia squinted… or she imagined she did. "Not helping," she said. The fox seemed offended but only yipped in response.
Time passed. Rocks shifted, small streams of water began winding through the crags, and energy currents shimmered faintly. The third Spiritual Vein was taking root.
Then, the system pinged.
Ding!
[Spiritual Vein Established — Third Vein Complete]
Alicia grinned (well, she imagined she grinned). "That's it? Already?"
A voice of reason—or the system—spoke up, as it always did.
System: "Minor veins completed. Total: 3/3. This satisfies one of the requirements for the Hidden Quest: World Seed Evolution."
Alicia floated above the highlands, admiring the subtle shimmer of spiritual energy spreading like veins through her planet.
"…Not too shabby. I think I actually earned a snack," she said aloud, though there was no snack in this dimension. A bit of humor always helped her sanity.
Her attention returned to the ocean. "Okay, next step: life density. Time to make the sea worth its pulse."
The World Seed pulsed faintly beneath the waves. Alicia could feel it, like a heartbeat calling out.
"…Don't worry," she whispered, "I haven't forgotten you this time."
And for the first time in her world-building career, Alicia felt a quiet sense of satisfaction.
But she also knew the hard part was just beginning.
