Chapter 35 - Ch35: Ocean Awakening

Chapter 35: Ocean Awakening

Alicia hovered above her planet, looking down at the vast ocean stretching like liquid glass across her world. The World Seed pulsed faintly beneath the waves, like a tiny heartbeat, calling for attention.

"…Okay, ocean. You've been quiet for far too long," she muttered, her nonexistent eyebrows raised. "Time to make you actually useful."

She focused her Life Energy, channeling it toward the World Seed. Tiny currents of golden energy streamed through the water, sinking deep into the ocean floor. The World Seed responded, pulsing more steadily.

Ding!

[World Seed Nourishment — 50 Life Energy Applied]

Alicia blinked (or imagined she did). "Not bad. That's a start."

She scanned the ocean floor. There were cells… lots of them. Floating amoeba-like shapes, clusters of primitive life that had been quietly forming for eons. But they were sparse. Life density was still too low.

"…Looks like we need more action," Alicia said, tapping into her system inventory. She activated the Sleeping Life method, letting her planet core absorb space energy and convert it into Life Energy automatically. Streams of energy flowed into the World Seed beneath the ocean, and she felt the first noticeable difference in the surrounding waters.

Tiny clumps of cells began sticking together. Slowly, chains formed. Micro-organisms started forming rudimentary food webs. Alicia floated, watching in fascination.

"…Okay, not bad for a few hours of work. Ocean, you're officially on probation."

The system pinged:

Ding!

[World Seed Nourishment — +100 Life Energy Applied]

[Oceanic Life Density — Slightly Increased]

Alicia let out a small sigh of relief. She had enough Life Energy to meet the World Seed's requirement for its first level-up. But the ocean still had a long way to go before its ecosystem would stabilize.

"…We're going to need more diversity," she muttered. She concentrated Life Energy toward the ocean currents, nudging primitive cells to multiply in different zones. Warm shallow areas saw tiny clusters forming, while deeper zones grew slowly but steadily.

As she focused, Alicia noticed something odd. A small, glowing ripple appeared near the edge of the World Seed's aura — a sign that something was beginning to form faster than expected.

"…Hmm. That wasn't supposed to happen yet," she said, a hint of curiosity in her tone. "Interesting."

Beneath the ocean, the World Seed pulsed brighter, almost as if it were pleased. Alicia smirked. "…Glad you approve. But don't get cocky. We've got a lot of work to do before you level up."

The ocean, for the first time in millions of years, seemed alive. Not just water with cells floating in it, but a tiny, growing ecosystem under Alicia's careful guidance.

And somewhere deep beneath, the World Seed waited.

Cliffhanger:

A strange, faint ripple spread from the World Seed's center — subtle, but Alicia felt it. Something… unexpected was beginning to awaken.
