CHAPTER 8: THE DAY OF THE CHALLENGE
The day of the inter-school Mathematics Challenge finally arrived.
Amara woke up early that morning. She was excited, but she also felt a little nervous.
She got ready for school and made sure she had everything she needed.
Before leaving the house, her mother called her.
"Amara, remember what I always tell you. Stay calm, believe in yourself, and do your best."
"Yes, Mummy," Amara replied with a smile. "I will."
When Amara got to school, she saw many students from different schools arriving for the competition.
She looked around and became a little nervous.
There were so many students.
"Amara, are you ready?" her teacher asked.
Amara took a deep breath.
"Yes, ma. I am ready."
The students were taken into the hall and shown where to sit. Amara sat quietly and looked at the other contestants.
Soon, the judges came in and explained the rules.
Then the competition began.
The first question appeared.
Amara read it carefully and started solving it.
She remembered everything she had practised.
The questions became harder as the competition continued.
At one point, Amara came across a question that she did not understand.
She almost became worried.
Then she remembered her mother's words.
"Stay calm and believe in yourself."
Amara took a deep breath and read the question again.
After thinking carefully, she finally understood it.
She solved the question and continued with the rest.
After some time, the final question was given.
Amara answered it and put down her pencil.
The competition was over.
The students handed in their papers and waited for the judges to announce the results.
Amara looked at her teacher.
Her teacher smiled at her.
"You did well, Amara."
"Thank you, ma," Amara replied.
Although Amara was curious about the result, she was also proud of herself.
She had faced a much bigger challenge and had not given up.
Author's thought: I could see how much Amara had changed. She was no longer afraid when things became difficult. She had learned to stay calm and trust herself.
But there was still one thing left.
The results.
Amara waited quietly as the judges prepared to announce the winners.
