CHAPTER 11: THE ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
The day of the academic programme finally arrived.
Amara woke up early and got ready for school. She was excited because she would be meeting students from different schools again.
Before leaving the house, her mother reminded her, "Amara, remember to be respectful and listen carefully. You are going there to learn."
"I will, Mummy," Amara replied.
When she arrived at school, her teacher was already waiting for her.
"Good morning, Amara."
"Good morning, ma."
"Are you ready?"
"Yes, ma!"
Soon, they left for the programme.
When Amara arrived, she saw many students sitting in a large classroom. Everyone looked excited and ready to learn.
A teacher welcomed them and explained what they would be doing.
"You are all here because you have shown great interest in your studies," the teacher said. "But remember, this programme is not about who is the smartest. It is about learning, working together, and improving yourselves."
Amara listened carefully.
The first activity was a group Mathematics exercise.
Amara was placed in a group with students she had never met before.
At first, she felt shy.
One of the students looked at her and said, "Hi, my name is Daniel."
"Hi, I'm Amara," she replied.
They began working on the questions together.
Some questions were easy, while others were difficult.
When Amara did not understand one of the questions, another student explained it to her.
"Thank you," Amara said.
"You're welcome," the student replied.
Amara smiled.
She realised that learning with other people could make difficult things easier.
Later, the teacher gave them another challenge.
This time, they had to solve a difficult problem within a certain amount of time.
Everyone became serious.
Amara looked at the question and started thinking.
She shared her idea with her group, and they worked together.
After a few minutes, they found the answer.
Their teacher checked their work and smiled.
"Excellent teamwork!"
Amara felt proud.
She had learned something new that day.
It was not always about being the best.
Sometimes, success came from listening to others and working together.
When Amara returned home that evening, her mother asked her how the programme went.
"It was wonderful, Mummy!" Amara said excitedly. "I learned so many things, and I also made new friends."
Her mother smiled.
"That is good. Always remember that there is something new to learn every day."
Amara nodded.
As she went to bed that night, she thought about everything that had happened.
She knew that the academic programme was going to teach her more than Mathematics.
It was going to help her become a better student and a better person.
Author's thought: Amara was beginning to understand that success was not only about coming first. Sometimes, the greatest lesson was learning how to work with others, accept help, and help others too.
And Amara did not know that the next day would bring her an unexpected challenge.
