CHAPTER 10: A NEW OPPORTUNITY
A few days had passed since Amara won the inter-school Mathematics Challenge.
Everyone at school was still congratulating her.
One afternoon, Amara was packing her books into her school bag when her teacher walked into the classroom.
"Amara, please come with me," her teacher said.
Amara looked up.
"Where are we going, ma?"
"You will find out soon," her teacher replied with a smile.
Amara followed her teacher to the principal's office.
When they entered, the principal was sitting at her desk with a big smile on her face.
"Amara, come in and sit down."
Amara sat down quietly.
The principal picked up a letter from her desk.
"Amara, I have some good news for you."
Amara became curious.
"What is it, ma?"
"Because of your excellent performance in the Mathematics Challenge, you have been given an opportunity to attend a special academic programme."
Amara's eyes widened.
"Really, ma?"
"Yes. It is an opportunity for students who have shown great interest and ability in their studies."
Amara smiled.
She was excited, but she also knew that this would bring new responsibilities.
"Thank you so much, ma. I will work hard."
The principal nodded.
"I know you will, Amara. But remember, success is not only about winning. It is also about being disciplined, humble, and willing to learn."
"Yes, ma," Amara replied.
When Amara returned to her classroom, her friends gathered around her.
"What did the principal say?"
"Did you get another prize?"
Amara laughed.
"No. I have been given an opportunity to attend a special academic programme!"
Her friends cheered.
"That's amazing!"
"We are so happy for you!"
Amara smiled.
That evening, she went home and told her mother about the opportunity.
Her mother was very proud.
"This is wonderful news, Amara. You should be proud of yourself."
Amara smiled.
"I am happy, Mummy. But I know I still have a lot to learn."
Her mother nodded.
"That is the spirit."
That night, Amara sat at her desk and looked at her books.
She thought about how much had changed.
Not long ago, she had been afraid of difficult Mathematics questions.
Now, she was being given opportunities she had never imagined.
Amara smiled to herself.
She knew her journey was not over.
In fact, it was only beginning.
