Becky could not believe her eyes it was like she took one look at the letter then she just went pail and crumpled to the ground. Becky quickly went to her and started fanning her face.
Becky was really puzzled by all this, she had never seen Tina's mom worry about her in the slightest bit, and now she was passing out. Becky guessed that since she had just found out that her husband had passed away and then on top of that she heard that Ken was gone too she guessed that she must be really worried about Tina.
The two guys that were standing there just moved in a step closer and watched as Becky tried to bring her back around. Becky looked at them she had never seen them around here before and she could tell that they didn't care for her at all. They showed no emotion when she fell even though they caught her and lowered her to the ground. She looked up at them and they were just standing there not even offering to help.
Becky said, "Stay with her I'll go get some water."
They just stood there unmoving. Finally, Becky got up and ran to the kitchen and got the water, and hurried back with it. When she returned the two guys were just standing there looking down at her. Becky just shook her head and wondered just what their problem was she poured a little water on her hand and then flicked her fingers sprits a spray of water on her face.
That was enough to make her open her eyes. Becky asked, "Are you all right?"
Diana blinked her eyes a few times trying to clear her head and asked, "Where am I"
Becky said, "You're at my house and I showed you a letter that Tina emailed me and you kind of passed out."
Diana blinked a few more times as it all came back to her and the need to find Tina came back to her. Diana desperately asked, "Do you have any idea where she would have gone?"
Becky just shook her head and said, "Well she was planning to go off with Ken to the college that he had picked out, but I don't know now that he is gone."
Diana asked, "Where did he go?"
Becky looked at her confused as if this was something she knew that she should know. Becky's face took on a very serious expression and she said, "He was in a bad car accident when he was going to graduation, and he passed away."
She was sure that Tina had to have talked to her and would have told her, but the fact that Sam died maybe she didn't want to talk to her about it. Becky hated the way that the two of them only fought and most of the time it was nothing serious.
Becky saw that she had no idea that it had happened by how shocked she was. So, she apologized for the way that she had told her.
Diana waved that part off she was a lot more concerned about where she could be and after a minute of silence between them, she said, "I am so worried that she is going to do something stupid to hurt herself isn't there a way that you and your friends could let me know when you hear something?"
Becky gave her a concerned look and said, "I will do everything I can to find out anything and let you know."
Becky wondered why Tina had her phone off or if she just had the sound off because she didn't want to talk to anyone. Becky was sure that she was not the only one that had been calling and texting her. Becky felt betrayed by Tina since she had not even bothered to say goodbye in person or anything. As she thought about it with the loss of her dad and ken, especially at the same time, she would not be up to talking to a lot of people either.
Diana said, "Thank you so much. I will be waiting for any kind of news that you all find out."
Diana knew that she was not likely to hear anything from Tina, but she did know where her bank account was, and where her trust was. Even if she didn't need money right at this moment she would sooner or later. Tina would have to access one of them to get it. She knew that she could get the information on the small bank account and she should be able to see where she gets charges. But that was not going to be anything right away and she doubted that the Leader was just going to be happy waiting to hear something in months.
Before Diana walked back to the house she asked, "Has Tina ever said any place that she wanted to go to you even if it was strange?"
Becky thought hard for a moment and shrugged her shoulders and shook her head and said, "She just talked about doing things with Ken. He kind of just took over everything in her life."
Becky thought since Tina's dad was so busy that he never had any real time with her, and she was always saying how mean her mom was to her. In a way, Becky kind of felt like she was betraying Tina by even talking to her. She could see how scared and upset Tina's mom was, and that was why she even was talking to her now.
Becky thought that when Tina gets ahold of her, she would let her know how upset her mom is and how worried and maybe she would just come back. Either that or would tell her not to let her mom know where she was. Becky didn't know what was going on with her, but she knew that she was worried about her too.
Becky watched Tina's mom walk away as she waved and wondered what was with the guys they were following close to her but were not at all friendly. She wondered why Tina's mom had not introduced them or even tried to explain who they were. Becky figured that she would just ask Tina's mom who they were the next time that she saw her or if she found out anything about Tina.
Diana dreaded the walk back to the house. The only news that she had was that she still didn't have a clue where Tina could have run off to. But that had given her some time to think and get some kind of plan in her head as to what to do next. She knew there was no point in looking around town, Tina had taken off. So, she knew that she could go up to her room and see what was there. She wanted to see if she was just going for a week, or two, or if it looked like she was not planning on coming back.
Diana felt pretty comfortable that one of her friends would be in contact with her within a day or two and she would be able to find out from the phone where she was or at least where she had been.
When she got to the door, she didn't want to open it up and face him, but the guys drew close, and she knew that she was not going to be able to delay this very long. As she stood there with her hand on the doorknob she froze and took a deep breath and one of the guys simply said, "Go on."
The sound of his voice sent a shiver down her spine she had never heard the guy talk it was always whispers and the leader telling them what to do. Having him say something made her jump and that was enough to get the door to start to open. Diana stepped back and almost bumped into one of them, she knew that he had told them to stay close, but this was really too much.
Diana gave them both a dirty look saying a little room please after all they were standing so close that she could not even open the door without backing up into them. One of them moved back, and the other moved forward and opened the door for her. She was not sure if he was doing that to be polite or if he was just trying to make sure that she went in.
It didn't matter, she knew now that she was going to have to go to the Leader and tell him everything.
When she entered the living room, she saw that he was sitting comfortably just waiting on her return. He looked up at her with hopes that she was going to be bringing him good news since she had not been gone that long.
Diana broke down crying and sniffling. She was sure that he was just going to order her death. She felt that if she was honest that she might be able to buy some time. After all, she had not done anything wrong, just always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The Leader looked at the sniveling woman and knew that they really didn't need her one way or the other to find the girl. But they might need her to help control Tina. When it came down to it they were unsure if they needed anything from Tina. They were not sure if Sam filled her in on anything, or if she had any secrets that they were going to need. After all, some of the missing research had to be with Tina since it was not there. So, it was going to be in their best interest just to keep her here and under control.
The Leader asked, "How are you going to find her? And once you do how are you going to be able to get her to come back here and stay put, so we will be able to question her when we need to?"
Diana blew her nose and wiped away the tears and said confidently, "One of her friends would surely be contacted by Tina within a couple of days and she was sure that they would be getting ahold of her to let her know. Once she could find her, she would call her or even go to her and convince her that the best thing was that she needed to come back home."
The Leader looked at her and knew that she was trying hard and that she still had worth, but he doubted that what she was saying was the truth. After all the girl took off on her, turned off her phone, and didn't even say a word to her. But even if there was only a 1% chance that she was going to be able to do it was worth the chance. After all, it was only going to cost them a few guards to make sure that she didn't talk or take off on them. He knew that looking for the wild girl was going to cost a lot more trying to track her down. Especially if she keeps turning off her phone.
The Leader said, "Fine. We will let you stay here but convince the brat to get her ass back here. By the way, don't let her know that she has something that we want."
Diana looked at the Leader strangely, she knew that they were looking for stuff in the house and it was his research, but she thought that it was just papers and notes. She didn't think that there was anything that Sam had that he shouldn't have had. The thought that Sam would have put it in Tina's car was beyond belief, but if he was going to hide something that would be a place most would not look at.
"What are you looking for?" Slipped out of her mouth before she thought about what she was saying.
The Leader shot her a death look and just said, "It's enough for you to know that we are looking for something and we believe that she has it. And it's keeping you both alive trying to get it back."
Diana took a hard swallow and knew that they were serious about getting it back, and she knew that she was not going to be able to get rid of these goons till they had what they were looking for back in their hands.
