Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Diana could not believe that she had fallen out of bed and what was worst was the fact her ass hurts now, and that Dave came running to see her trying to get to her feet. She looked over at the clock and saw that it was really early but now she was wide awake and her ass was hurting she was not going to be able to go back to sleep anyway.

Diana clicked on her phone to see if she had missed any messages and was surprised that no one had contacted her with the news of Tina. That was really strange because she never knew Tina to not be on the phone for one reason or the other.

Diana was not sure why she was not turning on her phone. She had called it several times and with it going straight to voicemail she knew that she had not had it on, or it was completely drained. She knew that if it was drained then she would have stopped somewhere to recharge it she had to know that people would be trying to get ahold of her. Diana knew even if she had broken it that would not have stopped her from getting a new one with the same number so that she would have been able to get her messages. Diana knew that it was way too soon for the company to have gotten to her, and even if they did, they would have contacted her or the guys that were watching her to let them know that they would be bringing her back. Or at least that was what she was hoping.

Diana went through every contact that she had that she thought Tina might contact no matter how old and asked them if they had seen or heard from her. She knew that it was going to be a long shot with some of them, but it was not like she had a clue as to whom Tina had been talking to and she definitely didn't have a clue as to where she was going.

It took a few hours for her to track down everyone that she had numbers of and send them texts. She was trying to find out if by any chance they had heard from Tina. At this point, she hated the fact that Tina was not just simply contacting her so that she could just tell her to come back. But she still was not sure that was the right decision. She knew that something at the lab made Sam sick and finally killed him, and although Tina was not her daughter in her heart, she knew that she could have been. She was as close to a blood daughter as you could get without being one. Now that everything was out in the open, she knew that deep down she loved her and didn't want to see anything happen to her.

Diana knew that none of that mattered if she was not able to tell her anything and even when she does start talking to her, she was going to be limited in what she could say because now she was constantly being watched. Diana knew that they would carefully listen to every word that she said on the phone, especially to Tina. As well as read every text that she would send with special attention to the ones that she would be sent to Tina.

As soon as she picked up her phone that caught Dave's attention. He watched her text all the people. She saw him not paying complete attention to her as she went through all the people sending them all just about the same thing. She did see him pay enough attention to what he read so that he read the message several times, and then at random times, he would read it again. If she was going to send her something she would be taking a chance, and she knew that if she acted differently in the slightest that they would notice. Not to mention that it would have to be just as long and go as fast as all the others that she was sending.

Even thinking about trying something like that she got nervous. When she started to sweat which did catch Dave's attention, he watched her more carefully. When she was done, he went through the messages that she had sent just to verify that he had not missed anything.

He could see that Diana was looking a little nervous but there was nothing that he could see that she should be nervous about, so he read through them twice just to make sure. Even doing that he tried to see if there was anything that she could have snuck in making them not look the same and mean something different but there just was nothing for him to find.

Diana saw that he was checking through her messages and was glad that she had not put anything in there for him to find. She thought if she was going to send any kind of secret message to Tina it would have to be something that she was passing through to one of her friends. Because if he was looking through all these messages so carefully that she knew that he would basically dissect everything that she was sending to Tina. It was all sounding so dangerous to her. Diana was not sure that any of it was going to be worth the risk even to try. After all, if she was going to have to hide it that well would Tina even understand it once it was sent?

All Diana would think would happen would be to warn her to stay away and if she did that it would put herself more at risk. Not to mention that the company would be sending people after her sooner or later and by the sounds of everything they are not going to wait very long to send people.

When Dave looked up from reading, she said, "I tried to reach out to everyone that she has had contact with. Just to try and help me get in contact with her. To try and get her to come home faster. A lot of them I don't think that she has been talking to in a long time, but it was worth the chance."

He never uttered a word but gave her an approving nod. He wanted this job to be over with. The last thing that he wanted to be was a babysitter for an old lady. It didn't matter how she looked, or how nice she was. It was all just a pain and seemed to him like it was a big waste of time, and manpower. He would have preferred just going out after the girl.

While he had her phone, she thought it would be a good time to take her shower and change her clothes. Since she could shut the door even if she could not lock it. It was not that she thought that he was going to be looking in on her, but everyone likes their privacy. Especially when they are in the bathroom, especially when it is a stranger and not someone that you have invited to stay at your home, to begin with. She had a weird thought going through her mind that she would not have minded if Rob had been the one guarding her. Then her face flushed, and she shook her head to push that kind of thought out of her mind. After all her husband had not even been buried yet. But it had been a long time since they had been intimate, but she knew that sleeping with one of them would not make anything better.

As she pulled the door closed, she started to think that way again and stopped herself and just slipped into the shower making sure to make it a short one and listening for any noise coming from the door.

She was surprised that she could shower that fast, it was the quickest that she had ever taken one. Once again, she was longing to hear that Tina was on her way back home so that this would be all over. She knew that it was not likely to happen, but it was what she was really wanted and praying for.

As Diana dried herself and dressed. She wondered if she had picked out the right outfit. She knew that she was going to have to deal with the funeral arrangements. She was thinking that she did not really want to leave the house in case someone would call about Tina. But it was not like she could just stop everything and wait for the phone call. Most of them would be calling her cell anyway, not that she wanted these thugs following her around town. They were going to be hard to explain, but there again she was dealing with things that she had no control of.

Diana thought that she could just say that they were some kind of a distant relationship that was helping her out through this rough time. Even as she thought about it everything seemed to fit in place and would work because once Tina comes back then they will be gone, and no one should ask any more questions about them.

Once she was ready she opened the door to not only see Dave but Ron there too. She could tell that they had been talking about her in such a way that everything stopped short as soon as the door was opened.

Diana could not help but blush a little when she looked at Ron before she looked away. She thought to herself that she had to keep from doing that again. She asked, "Would you like some breakfast before we have to go deal with things?"

Dave gave her a look like he was starving and had not eaten for a few days as he said, "Sure."

Ron smiled at her and said, "That would be great."

He was not used to people that they were guarding to be treating them so nicely, most of them ignored the fact that they were there, or they were just in the way so feeding them was something that they were not going to deal with. So that left them always just to order them to bring something unless they were not allowed to show that they were there then they would have to go get it and have the other one stay on guard till they would bring it back.

They followed her back to the kitchen and took seats at the bar letting her have the room that was going to be needed to work.

Diana looked in the fridge to see what she even had in there. No one had been eating there at all that much lately. After all Sam left early and he would just grab something on the way to work if he wanted anything to eat. Tina, if she had even spent the night there, would be out in the morning with her friends. Then stay out till late, if she would even bother to come back home to sleep. So that just left Diana, who started going out every day, so that she was not just at the house by herself. It made cleaning up so much easier as well since no one was hardly ever there, except to sleep. Nothing much ever got more than dusty.

The fridge was mostly empty but there was a container of eggs on the shelf. As she looked around there was a part of a loaf of bread so she figured that she could fix some eggs and some toast it was not much, but it appeared to be about all she had. Unless they wanted some old cereal that had been in the cupboard for a while, and she was not exactly sure how long that while was. Not that she had the milk for it.

Diana took out the eggs and then thought about how long it had been since anyone had really done any shopping. She looked at the date that was on the carton and it had expired over two months ago. Then she looked at the loaf of bread that had expired as well, and when she picked it up the bread was no longer soft it was like it had already been toasted. So, she pitched them both in the trash and said, "Well, I guess that we will have to stop in town for food, but at least the coffee is hot and fresh." She gave them a small apologetic smile and hoped that just the coffee would be enough to hold them over till they would get some food in town.

They both watched her check the food and when she tried to squeeze the bread they could tell that it was already stiff and thought that even if she would have cooked the food they would not have even tried it.

They nodded at her suggestion to go out for food especially since they knew that she would be going out most of the day and they had to be with her.

Diana walked over and grabbed her keys and asked, "Are you both ready?" Knowing that there was no point in asking, they were like her shadow whenever she was ready, they were waiting on her.

Just then her phone went off with a text.
