Tina was startled awake by the pounding on the door. At first, she had no idea where she was or what was going on, or who was pounding on the door. She quickly looked around the room and she found that she was still dressed lying on a bed. She had been in enough hotels to know that was where she was and the fact that this was just a cheap one when everything clicked, and she remembered everything.
As Tina sat there trying to figure out what was going on they started banging on the door again and this time she heard, "Hurry up. Come on and open up the door."
Tina didn't have a clue as to who the guy was or what he wanted but she knew that she was not going to be opening up the door for him. The guy sounded like he was so drunk that he was beardly able to stand. Tina was unsure if she should just stay silent and hope that he goes away to try and quickly call the lobby or if she should just tell him that he has the wrong room. Just as she got ready to say that he had the wrong room she heard. "Come on Janette open the door."
"Down here, Will. You have the wrong room I'm Down here." A female voice announced.
"Oh, there you are hahaha," Will replied.
Tina could not believe how fast her heart was racing from that but now that it was all over it didn't take long for her to calm down. Her mind had jumped right to the thought of it was one of the guys from the diner that had tracked her down because she had asked about the hotels in town.
Tina looked at the time and it was very late. She couldn't believe that she had slept as long as she did. There was no point in getting up now and driving anywhere in the middle of the night, especially when there was no place that she needed to be. She looked around and clicked on the tv. It didn't matter what was on, she just needed a break from the silence and the thoughts that were racing through her mind. She found a movie that she had seen before. It was not the greatest, but it was okay, and it was something that she didn't need to concentrate on to figure out what was going on in it.
Tina decided to finish off the things that she had for lunch and found that it was still tasty even though she didn't bother heating them back up. She was glad that there wasn't any more to eat it filled her back up she had not been that hungry, but she knew that if she didn't keep eating, she would just get sick.
Tina now felt lonelier than she ever had in her life. She had always had someone around, or she was on her way to being with them. This is what was so strange for her now is that she had left everyone and everything behind. Except for the few things that she had with her.
Tina looked down at her phone and she knew that she had it off so that she would not have to be bothered by the questions of why did you go? and are you okay? or what can I do to make you feel better? knowing that there was nothing that anyone could do to make her feel better. She knew all she would have to do was turn it on and call someone and most of the loneliness that she was feeling would be gone but it would be replaced with the guilt of turning it off in the first place along with more sadness making her think about all the things that she was trying not to think about.
Tina reached for it, but before her fingers even touched it, she decided that she was just going to leave it off through the night. In the morning she would get back to the people that were trying to contact her. She felt like that was going to be the best way to deal with it all. She knew that when she just sent out the emails to her friends that they were going to be trying to contact her to find out why, or even get her to come back. So, she could just go with them instead. There was no way that she wanted to hang around and become some kind of third wheel for them.
She withdrew her hand without even touching it and decided just to finish eating and watch the movie. She was watching the movie and when the sounds of the couple next door became louder, she wound up turning up the tv to block it out. She really was not in the mood to hear someone getting lucky at this time.
Tina was glad when they stopped even though she had the tv loud enough to block most of it out there was still enough sound that made it through the wall that she knew exactly what they were doing and when they finished.
Once the movie was over, she decided that she was going to shower and then go back to bed and sleep then when she woke up, she would deal with the phone.
As Tina slipped off her top and skirt, she suddenly got the feeling that someone was looking at her. She held her clothes in front of her and looked around the room. She looked hard and there was just nothing. So, she went over to the window and looked out through the blinds there was still nothing, but she couldn't get past the feeling that she was being watched. She remembered a movie in which they had put holes in the walls so she turned off the light to see if there was any light coming from the other side and even if they were looking in from a dark room now it would be too dark for them to see in.
Tina remembered another movie where they had put cameras in the vents so that they could record the different people getting undressed and screwing and things so she was okay with just leaving the light off she was going to put it on in the bathroom so she could see to do what she wanted to do.
Tina thought that she was going to have to stop watching all these movies they were starting to get to her, but she had never liked them in the first place, that was a Ken thing he liked getting her all scared so she would cuddle closer.
Tina had to admit that she had liked it at the time, but now it was not going to be any fun thinking that there was someone out to get her. Or even peeping in on her, but she had no idea of how they could be doing it. She had no proof that anyone was doing it but it just felt so strong that she could not help but feel that way.
As she looked around in the dark she couldn't see anything so she knew that if someone was looking in that they would be in the same position so that eased her mind and she could go into the bathroom and get her shower she knew that if they had been trying to watch her once she turned off the lights that they would lose interest and if they had been watching that they wouldn't be once she finished her shower and put on her nightie.
She went into the bathroom and closed the door before she turned on the light. She looked around the dark bathroom and didn't see any light coming into the room and now she was thinking that it was just her imagination that was making her feel like someone was watching her. She clicked on the light and had mixed emotions at seeing the bathroom it was clean and bug-free which was a good thing, but she could tell that everything was older and even though it had been taken care of it still looked like it all needed to be replaced.
Tina thought back to all the places that her family had gone to the hotels was always so much better, but she was sure that they never stayed in out-of-the-way places, and she was sure that they always stayed at the finest hotels that were around. Not that they ever traveled all that much but when they did her dad made sure it was something for them all to remember.
Her smile at thinking of her dad and them on vacation quickly turned into a frown with tears running down her cheeks. Not only was she never going to have a vacation like that again, but she was also not going to see her dad ever again. As she stood there she thought about her mom or the aunt that posed as her mom and even though they seemed to fight all the time she still had some good memories of them all being together.
Tina thought at least the water was hot and she left it a little hotter than she normally would, so it was slightly stinging her skin. It seemed to help with the pain in her heart. She couldn't believe that she was even starting to miss Diana at least a little, but she knew that she was not missing her as much as it was that she was missing the way that her dad made her feel even when they were all together.
Tina took her time in the shower and then dried off and slipped on her nightie before clicking off the light and reopening the door just as she had thought she was not really feeling the feeling that someone was watching her now. She was still unsure if anyone even did but it was not like they were going to see anything now, even if the room was well-lit there was no way that she was about to put on any lights.
Tina slipped under the blankets and within no time at all was sound asleep. It was a heavy sleep without any dreams that her body needed.
Tina awoke with a start, there was a light tapping on the door, but it was hard enough to make the whole door rattle.
"Housekeeping. Housekeeping. Is there anyone in there?" The maid said.
Tina stumbled out, "I'm still in here."
The maid said, "Okay I was just checking. I'll come back later to do your room."
Tina thought that she had forgotten to put the do not disturb on the door, but she never thought that she was sleeping so long that they would be trying to do the room before she was even up.
Tina looked at the time and was surprised it was after eight and she was still feeling tired, but she was thinking that was just from being so drained for so long that it was all just catching up with her all at once. She knew that she had till eleven to check out but there was no real need to stay here any longer than she had to. After all, it was not like she was going to go back to sleep now.
Tina got dressed and then gathered her things, leaving her phone for last. She looked at it and thought about how she still really didn't want to turn the thing on. She knew that there were going to be a bunch of people saying how worried they all were and others saying that they were sorry for what she was going through with the loss of her father and her boyfriend. The ones that would say that they knew what she was going through were the worst because she had never heard of anyone losing both at the same time. Even if they could understand that they would never understand the fact that she was trying to deal with the loss of her mother on top of it all. The fact that they had lied to her about it for years and finally just told her the truth.
Tina took a deep breath and tried to steady herself. Then she thought to herself that if it gets to be too much, she could just turn it back off. The fact was that she really didn't have to talk to anyone that she didn't want to, especially if she was just returning their calls.
Tina looked down at her phone and saw her reflection reflecting off of the glass and she could hardly believe that was really how she was looking she was already looking so sad. She had been avoiding the mirror, it was there but it was not like she had been seeing herself now the phone was showing her more than she was wanting to see.
Tina pressed the power button, and the phone came to life.
