The man looked at the young man sitting across from him.
Ethan was in his thirties, wearing a sharp military uniform that carried an immediate presence. His features were defined, and his cold gray eyes hinted at sharp intelligence. His short brown hair was neatly styled, reflecting strict discipline.
The father spoke calmly.
"I can no longer protect Veronica… My wealth and possessions are useless here. That is why I called you, Ethan."
Ethan looked at him.
"You want me to protect her?"
The father nodded slightly.
"Her enemies are not merely human… Please, protect her."
Ethan asked, his voice steady.
"Will Veronica accept me?"
The father replied without hesitation.
"She doesn't know you yet, but she is kind. She will accept you, of course. Please, protect her. If her enemies were only human, I would have given my life for her… but I am just an ordinary man who cannot fight them."
Ethan leaned back slightly.
"Don't worry, Andrew… you protect her from humans, and I'll protect her from monsters."
A maid stepped forward and placed the tea on the table.
She looked at the father.
"Sir, is there anything else you need?"
The father shook his head.
"No, Aila. Just stay with Veronica when she arrives. Serve only her—there's no need to serve anyone else."
Aila nodded.
"Alright, sir."
Ethan watched the maid walk away: "Why do you want her to accompany Veronica? Can you trust her?"
The Father: "She's just a maid, but she owes Veronica everything. If my daughter is in any danger, she will stand in front of her, sacrificing her life without hesitation."
Ethan looked at the maid as she cleaned in the distance.
Her black hair moved gently with the breeze. She met his gaze with wide brown eyes and gave him an innocent, enchanting smile. When he didn't respond, she quickly pressed her lips together and continued walking.
Ethan spoke softly, still watching her delicate figure.
"So… she's just a scapegoat to protect Veronica."
