Chapter 8 - DEMONESs AT THE AUCTION

DEMONESS AT THE AUCTION ❄️

Part 8

Ethan tilted his head slightly.

"If your wounds disappear… why were you afraid of the glass?"

Veronica didn't hesitate.

"Because the pain doesn't."

Her voice was steady.

"I feel everything. The cut… the burn… the cold. Nothing disappears except the wound."

A brief silence fell.

"If it's not Atlas…" her father said slowly, "then I think they're back."

Veronica's expression darkened.

"…Yes. The organization."

She clenched her hand.

"No one else could enter my school except them."

A pause.

"They're looking for me."

Ethan shook his head.

"No."

His voice was calm… certain.

"They're not looking for you."

She frowned.

"Then who?"

"If they were after you," he said, "they'd be after me too."

Her eyes widened slightly.

"…Do they know you're here?"

Ethan didn't answer immediately.

Then—

"What happened to you… happened to me too."

The words hit hard.

Her breath caught.

"…You too?"

She stared at him.

"You were taken? As a child?"

Her voice rose.

"The 'Extraordinary Children' auction… were you there too?"

Ethan's gaze turned cold.

"That's in the past."

A beat.

"And we're not close enough for you to ask about it."

Veronica clicked her tongue.

"I'm not interested in you."

She crossed her arms.

"But if it's not me… then who are they looking for?"

Ethan's eyes darkened.

"…Someone extraordinary."

Her father frowned.

"More extraordinary than my daughter?"

Ethan didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

A heavy silence followed.

"The ability to heal…" he added quietly,

"…isn't that rare."

Footsteps broke the tension.

A maid approached and bowed slightly.

"Sir, someone is here to see you."

"I'm coming," the father said.

He glanced toward the wall.

"Remove those pieces from the panels and clean up."

"Yes, sir," Ayla replied softly.

She approached the glass panels and began removing the shattered pieces one by one.

"But you're saying," the father continued, "they have a specific target? Not my daughter?"

"Not for now," Ethan said.

"Maybe later… if they don't find who they're looking for."

Ayla paused.

Slowly… she lifted her head.

Her gaze drifted toward Ethan.

Then—

Her eyes turned red.

Just for a second.

She shut them tightly.

A whisper crawled through her mind—

"My beauty…"

Her fingers trembled.

"They're looking for us…"

Her grip tightened around the glass.

"Let's burn them first."
