After listening to Lucifer talk for a while, Scarlet felt like something was a bit off. The way he explained things, she'd never heard anything like it.
"So according to you, both heaven and hell are good things? Then why split them into two different places? And if what you're saying is true, doesn't that mean everyone born into this world is immortal?"
Scarlet's rapid-fire questions didn't throw Lucifer off at all. These things were all obvious to him, so answering was simple.
"The world has kindness and evil. If you're kind, you go to heaven. If you're evil, you go to hell. But the most important thing is whether you actually get things done or not. Whether it's heaven or hell, they're not gonna grant immortality to some useless freeloader."
Hearing 'useless freeloader', Scarlet snuck a glance at Lucifer. That look said everything words could have.
"Hmph, go ahead and look. If I'm scared, then I'm your little brother."
Lucifer didn't need to explain why he came to earth to some mortal. Doing that would make him feel like his status was being lowered.
"And as for humans, you're asking the wrong question."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
Scarlet furrowed her brows, trying to recall every word and sentence, but she couldn't find what was wrong with it.
"You've got the order a bit mixed up. The soul is born before the body, and from the moment it's born, the soul is already immortal. That body you're using now, you chose it yourself, it's not random.
An immortal soul still having to choose a finite body is actually to prove whether you're worthy of heaven or hell. If you don't succeed, you just drift in endless emptiness until you get tired of living and then dissolve on your own."
Lucifer said all that to set things up. He was just waiting for a chance to turn her into an even more obedient slave of his.
"Then what about other animals? Or people with brain diseases?"
She didn't believe Lucifer could answer everything. She had to come up with a question that would shut him up so she could humiliate him.
"Normally those two cases are defective souls born with the body. In that situation, getting to heaven or hell is extremely hard because the deficiency is too big. Of course a small number of miracles still manage it, but that chance is much harder than winning the lottery."
The number of souls in heaven and hell is countless. Over countless years, of course, a big pile of such cases has added up.
This is God's love, letting even the most flawed existences have a chance to perfect themselves.
"Then tell me, what is my responsibility to this world for?"
Ask about big-picture stuff and Lucifer knows, but Scarlet doesn't believe he knows even small-scale stuff like individual people.
This time she guessed right. Lord of Hell Lucifer knows, but current Lucifer doesn't have the power to know.
"That I don't know. But I'm sure if you become my No. 1 slave excellently, then I can cover you for a ticket. As for whether it's heaven or hell, we'll judge whether you're a kind person or an evil person later."
Even as Lord of Hell, he can still help recruit new 'personnel' for heaven. As long as he doesn't interfere too much, it's fine. Anyway, the high-level existences in hell or heaven all know each other. They just have different responsibilities.
"I don't want it. You're just a mortal. What right do you have to promise this? Unless you have some special identity."
This was blatantly fishing for information. Unless someone's deaf, they'd definitely see through Scarlet's intention.
"You want to know? Fine, I'll tell you. I'm the human incarnation of Archangel Lucifer, the angel who bravely fought in the war against evil forces in heaven, the one chosen to be the savior to save humanity at this time."
Lucifer declared it arrogantly. He'd even imagined Scarlet dropping to her knees after finding out his real identity.
But no matter how he thought about it, he didn't expect to only get a look of suspicion from her. That look slowly shifted from suspicion to contempt, then to one that seemed to have seen through everything.
"With your kind of behavior, you're an archangel? Since when is an archangel some arrogant pervert?"
Scarlet kept provoking Lucifer to squeeze out more info. Lucifer knew what she was doing but still chose to keep confirming.
"I swear to God that every word I say is true. That's the highest oath I can give."
[Aren't you ashamed of yourself? That evil force that fought against heaven back then, wasn't that led by you? Doesn't telling half-truths like this to trick a kid embarrass you at all?]
Lucifer didn't bother answering the system, just watched to see what decision Scarlet would make.
"Got it. Based on your behavior, I figure you're that self-centered angel who betrayed heaven. You really did fight bravely, but as the villain, right? With your moral character, the strange thing is that you weren't kicked out of heaven in the first place."
Seeing Lucifer's smug face sink a little, with some surprise on it, she knew she'd guessed everything right.
"Hahahaha… What's with that ugly look? Scared now? If you serve me obediently, I'll consider keeping your secret for you."
"Aaaah! You bastard!"
She hadn't even laughed for long before Lucifer started a volley of spanks on her butt. This time he wanted to make sure she wasn't getting out of bed today.
"Don't you like crying so much? Why aren't you crying?"
As he spanked her, he grinned. It'd been a long time since anyone dared to threaten him like this. And not some random threat either, one that actually worked. If this got out, how could he keep his savior title?
The quest given by his superior could only succeed, not fail. Lucifer had never known failure his whole life.
Even when he got kicked out of heaven and became a demon king, that was also arranged from the start as part of the mission.
