Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The Limits of Copper

The morning in Seoul was quiet. Ji-Hoon sat at the table, eating a bowl of rice and some seasoned spinach. He noticed his grip on the metal chopsticks was a bit too tight. He had to consciously remind his fingers to relax. The "Weight" from the game was making his real-world movements feel strangely forceful.

"Ji-Yoon," he said, looking at his sister. "The skinning knife. It's starting to chip. When we were harvesting the Ridge-Back Goat yesterday, I saw a hairline fracture near the hilt."

Ji-Yoon nodded, her expression serious. "It's a Common (Rank F) tool made of basic copper. It was designed for Level 1 rabbits and wolves, not Level 9 hides. If we try to hunt anything stronger, the blade will snap."

"I checked the village smithy," Ji-Hoon said, his voice low. "A standard Uncommon (Rank E) hunting knife is 60 Silver. That's 6,000 copper. Most players our level haven't even seen a single Silver piece yet. Even if we had the money, a Level 3 player walking around with a 60-Silver blade would draw way too much attention."

"We don't buy it," Ji-Yoon said. "We make it. We have the Stone Boar hides, the Cave Crawler shells, and we still have that True Ice fragment. We just need a place to work where no one is watching."

[Location: Village of Oros - The Old Smeltery]

The Old Smeltery was a broken-down building at the very edge of the village. It was a "dead" building with no active NPCs or quests, so players never stepped inside. For the siblings, it was the perfect hiding spot.

The air inside was thick with soot. Zenith sat cross-legged in front of the stone hearth. He didn't use a fire spell; those were too bright and loud. Instead, he took out a Raw Mana Core and held it between his palms. He began to compress his own mana into the core, forcing it to vibrate until it glowed a deep, angry orange.

"I'll hold the heat," Zenith panted. The air around him began to shimmer.

Selena placed their battered copper knife on the stone. Beside it, she laid out the jagged shards of the Cave Crawler shells.

"The system says we don't have the 'Blacksmith' profession," Selena whispered, her eyes reflecting the orange glow. "But it doesn't matter. We aren't smithing. We're bonding."

She channeled her Divine Light, but she didn't let it shine. she compressed it into a thin, vibrating thread of gold. She used the light to bridge the gap between the copper and the shell. She was forcing the high-density mana from the crawler shell to fuse with the soft copper base.

The warnings flickered in red, but they didn't stop. Zenith pushed more heat, his face dripping with sweat. Selena's light turned from gold to a piercing white. They weren't following a recipe; they were using raw "Action" to overwrite the game's crafting rules.

After three hours of grueling focus, the light faded.

On the stone lay a knife that looked like it had been carved from an old bone. The copper was gone, swallowed by a dull, grey material that felt cold to the touch. The edge wasn't smooth; it was serrated with tiny, obsidian-like teeth from the crawler's shell.

"It's ugly," Zenith laughed, his voice raspy from the smoke. "But it's ours."

"It has a high piercing stat," Selena said, testing the weight. "It will go through the Damp-Skin Hounds like paper. And because it looks like junk, no one will give it a second glance."

They left the smeltery, looking like two dirty beggars. They sat on their bench, watching a Level 20 Warrior walk past. He was carrying a Rare (Rank D) steel sword that probably cost 5 Gold (500 Silver). It was a beautiful weapon, but it was just code bought with coins.

Zenith looked at the bone-grey knife tucked into Selena's belt. Their weapon was born from their own hands, their own heat, and their own light.

"Day 13," Zenith whispered.

"Day 13," Selena replied.

They logged out and found their mother in the kitchen. She had bought a small flowering plant for the table.

"It was only 2,000 won," she said, looking a little shy. "But I thought it made the room look more like a home."

"It's beautiful, Mom," Ji-Hoon said, his heart feeling full.

They were Level 3. They had a weapon that shouldn't exist. And they were finally starting to turn their tiny apartment into a place where a mother could smile. The foundation wasn't just bronze anymore; it was starting to feel like steel.
