Chapter 20
The waiter comes back to drop the bill and I watch as he just gives him a platinum card. No words exchanged between them.
"We should go, I have a meeting soon" he said finally, his tone clipped.
I wiped my mouth with the napkin, folding it slowly and carefully placing it back under the plates.
The strap of my bag suddenly feeling heavier than it should have been, so I adjusted it until it sat perfectly on my hand.
I looked up to find him staring at me, his gaze steady and unflinching. It caught me off guard for a second but I straightened up in my seat quickly trying to dissolve the tension hoping he couldn't see how unsettled I was.

The car ride was as quiet as how it was in the restaurant.
I couldn't blame, it's not like we had anything to talk about.
From the corner of my eye I could see him sitting perfectly still.
His expression, unreadable.
"So…" I began
"When does this all officially start?" I asked, peering at him, his jaw hardening on instinct.
