Chapter 25
The line went dark for a few seconds, the sound of the phone shuffling the only thing I could hear.
"Just come home, Andrea"
Susan?
What was she doing at home?
Was this about Dad?
They had separated more than a decade ago, so why would she be affected by his death?
If anything she should be happy.
The call ended, before I could say anything else.
I looked up to see Matthew's mother staring at me, concern in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry, I have to leave" I said, taking the napkin off my lap.
She set her fork and knife down on her plate, leaning forward to rub her hand over mine.
"Is everything okay?" She asked.
I inhaled sharply.
The thought of explaining to her what just happened crossed my mind but it quickly fizzled off.
The only way the arrangement would work is if there were boundaries. Telling her what was going on in my personal life was definitely not doing that
Even if I wanted to, I wasn't entirely sure what was going on either.
