Chapter 22
My phone buzzed against the mattress.
I frowned.
Almost nobody texted me anymore. Not after everything that had happened.
Rolling onto my side, I grabbed my phone and squinted at the screen.
Aunty Kay
My brows immediately furrowed.
That was strange.
My aunt never texted me except if she needed something.
And even then she would just call me. If she didn't call, she'd usually send my mom after me.
For a second, I wondered if she'd sent the message to the wrong person.
Opening it, I read the text.
Andrea, are you home?
A knot formed in my stomach.
I quickly typed back.
Yeah. Why?
The message was delivered instantly.
Then nothing.
No reply.
I stared at the screen.
One minute passed.
A few minutes later which felt like eternity, the text bubbles appeared but almost immediately she deleted it.
My fingers tapped impatiently against my thigh, the suspension getting to me.
If she was concerned enough to text me, why wasn't she answering?
