Chapter 4 - Back To Normal

Days passed.

Then a week.

Then another.

And just like that, university life settled into its rhythm—as if that night had never happened.

Gu Yi's Side

Lectures. Notes. Assignments.

Gu Yi kept his head down, just like he promised himself he would.

Wake up. Class. Library. Dorm.

Repeat.

Chen Hao still talked too much. Liu Wen still laughed too easily. Nothing had changed.

Except… sometimes, in the middle of a lecture, his mind would drift.

A quiet room.

Dim lights.

A girl sitting beside him, not saying much—but somehow saying enough.

"…Gu Yi?"

He snapped back.

"Professor's calling you."

"…Sorry," he muttered, standing up slightly.

"Answer the question."

He did. Correctly.

The professor nodded, unimpressed.

The class moved on.

But Gu Yi didn't feel relieved.

He just… felt distracted.

Avoidance Without Saying It

He saw her once.

Across campus.

Near the finance building.

She was surrounded by people—other students, maybe seniors, maybe friends. She looked exactly the same.

Calm. Untouchable. Composed.

Like that night had never reached her.

Gu Yi paused for half a second.

Then kept walking.

Shui Mingyun's Side

Her life didn't change.

At least, not on the surface.

Classes. Meetings. Calls.

She moved through everything with the same steady rhythm she always had.

Efficient. Controlled. Distant.

No one noticed anything different.

Not her classmates.

Not her professors.

Not even the people who thought they knew her.

But sometimes—

When she was alone—

She'd stop.

Just for a moment.

Her hand would hover over her phone.

A contact that didn't exist.

A name she never saved.

Then she'd lower it again.

"…Ridiculous," she murmured to herself.

And continue as if nothing happened.

The Body Remembers

The first time she noticed it, she ignored it.

A slight wave of nausea.

"Probably the food," she muttered.

Campus restaurants weren't exactly known for quality.

She drank some water. It passed.

The second time—

It was stronger.

She paused midway through a discussion, her fingers tightening slightly around her pen.

"You okay?" a classmate asked.

"Mm. Just tired."

She forced a small smile.

The third time—

She didn't ignore it.

Morning.

Bathroom.

The sound of running water.

Then—

A sudden, sharp wave.

She barely made it in time.

Silence

Shui Mingyun gripped the edge of the sink, her breathing uneven.

Her reflection stared back at her.

Pale.

Still composed.

But her eyes…

They weren't calm anymore.

"…No," she said quietly.

It wasn't denial.

It was calculation.

Her mind moved fast.

Dates.

Timing.

That night.

Her fingers tightened slightly.

The room felt… too quiet.

A Thought She Didn't Want

"…It's too early to assume anything."

Her voice was steady again.

Controlled.

Rational.

But she didn't move.

Didn't leave.

Didn't look away from her reflection.

Because somewhere, deep down—

She already knew.

End Hook

Outside, campus life went on as usual.

Students laughed. Classes filled. Time moved forward.

Unaware—

That something had already begun.

Something that would tie two distant lives together again.

Whether they were ready…

Or not.
