Chapter 14 - Pawns of the mastermind

Vivek stood still.

His eyes fixed on them.

Observing.

Measuring every reaction.

Then—

he spoke again.

"Last night…"

"There was an attack."

Both women looked at him.

Alert.

"Someone tried to kill her."

A pause.

"So we decided to move her."

"To a safer place."

Silence.

Vivek's voice remained calm—

almost emotionless.

"But…"

He paused deliberately.

Watching their faces.

"She died on the way."

Himanshi's eyes widened.

"In a car accident."

Silence.

Heavy.

Rajni stepped back slightly.

"No…" she whispered.

"This can't be…"

Vivek noticed it.

That reaction.

Not fear.

Not relief.

But… disbelief.

Genuine.

His eyes narrowed.

Because now—

he was sure of one thing.

They knew something real.

Something deeper.

Something dangerous.

Vivek crossed his arms.

"So tell me…"

"If she wasn't the curse…"

"Then why was she targeted?"

Silence filled the space again.

Because this time—

their answers mattered more than ever.

And one wrong word—

could expose everything.

After saying that—

Vivek turned around.

And walked away.

Without looking back.

His footsteps echoed in the silence.

Until—

he disappeared.

And then—

nothing.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Everyone just stood there.

Frozen.

Processing what they had just heard.

Lilly…

Dead.

Again.

Whispers slowly began to rise.

Low.

Uncertain.

Some faces showed fear.

Some confusion.

And some—

something else.

Something darker.

Mrs. Himanshi clenched her hands tightly.

"This isn't right…" she whispered.

Mrs. Rajni looked around—

carefully.

As if afraid someone was watching.

"Nothing is right in this place…" she murmured.

A cold breeze passed through the society.

And with it—

a strange feeling.

Because somewhere in that silence—

someone was satisfied.

Because for them—

Lilly's "death" was necessary.

night—

Silence covered Gitanjali Society.

But not everyone was asleep.

A shadow moved quietly.

Then another.

Two figures stood outside Lilly's flat.

They looked around—

carefully.

Making sure no one was watching.

Then—

crack.

The lock broke.

The door opened slowly.

They stepped inside.

Without wasting a second—

they moved straight toward Lilly's room.

Their footsteps quick.

Urgent.

The door creaked open.

They stepped in—

And froze.

Someone was sitting on the bed.

Calm.

Waiting.

It was Vivek.

Silence.

For a moment—

no one moved.

Then—

panic.

They turned to run.

But before they could—

lights turned on.

"Stop."

Voices echoed.

The entire place was surrounded.

Officers stepped in—

blocking every exit.

They were trapped.

Vivek stood up slowly.

His eyes fixed on them.

Cold.

Sharp.

As if he had been waiting for this moment.

"So…"

He stepped closer.

"Mrs. Himanshi."

A pause.

"And Mrs. Rajni."

Both of them stood still.

Shocked.

Exposed.

Vivek's voice turned colder.

"What do you need here?"

A step closer.

"What brought you here… in the middle of the night?"

Silence.

Heavy.

Because now—

there was no escaping.

Because the ones who looked confused—

were hiding the truth all along.

Vivek stepped closer.

His eyes locked on them.

Cold.

"So…"

"You two are behind all of this?"

Silence.

Mrs. Himanshi and Mrs. Rajni looked at each other.

A brief glance—

as if deciding something.

Then—

Mrs. Himanshi spoke.

A faint smile on her face.

"You think we are the masterminds?"

A pause.

Then she shook her head slowly.

"You're wrong."

Vivek's expression didn't change.

"Then who is?" he asked.

Himanshi's eyes darkened.

"You can't reach them."

Silence.

"Not you…"

"Not anyone."

Vivek stepped closer.

"Try me."

Mrs. Rajni spoke this time.

Her voice calm—

but heavy.

"We are just… watchers."

"Spies."

"We observe."

"And we report."

A pause.

"To our boss."

The word echoed.

Boss.

Vivek's jaw tightened.

"What boss?" he demanded.

But Himanshi smiled faintly.

"You're already late."

Silence.

"We only shared the truth of this society…"

"We didn't create it."

Rajni added softly—

"We didn't kill anyone."

"We didn't kidnap anyone."

A pause.

"We just watched."

Silence filled the room.

Because now—

the truth had changed again.

This wasn't the end.

It was just the beginning.

Because if they were just pawns—

then the real monster…

was still out there.

Vivek stood still.

His jaw clenched.

His fists tightened.

For a moment—

anger flashed in his eyes.

"So this was it…" he murmured.

"Just pawns."

Mrs. Himanshi and Mrs. Rajni were taken away by the officers.

Neither of them resisted.

Neither of them spoke.

As if—

their job was already done.

Silence returned.

But this time—

it felt heavier.

Vivek turned around slowly.

His mind replaying every word they had said.

"You can't reach them…"

"You're already late…"

"We are just spies…"

Each sentence—

echoing again and again.

His eyes darkened.

"Then who are you…" he whispered.

"The one hiding behind all of this…"

A pause.

His thoughts raced.

Masked man.

Masked girl.

The envelope.

The mark on the knife.

Everything—

connected somehow.

But the picture—

was still incomplete.

Vivek closed his eyes for a moment.

Then opened them again.

Sharper.

More determined.

"Enough hiding…" he said quietly.

"I'll find you."

"No matter who you are."

Because now—

Vivek wasn't just solving a case…

he was hunting a shadow.
