Chapter 17 - The mastermind's message

Vivek stood in front of the cottage.

His eyes fixed on the door.

Cold.

Focused.

Without wasting a second—

he stepped forward—

and broke the door open.

The wood cracked loudly.

Echoing in the silence.

He entered.

The officers followed behind him.

And then—

he stopped.

His steps froze.

His eyes widened slightly.

For a moment—

his mind went blank.

Because what he saw—

was unexpected.

Shocking.

The entire room—

was filled with packets.

Boxes.

Containers.

Scattered everywhere.

Vivek walked closer.

Slowly.

Carefully.

He picked one up.

Opened it.

And his expression darkened.

"Drugs…" he whispered.

Silence.

Heavy.

Because now—

everything made sense.

The children.

Their behavior.

The control.

It was never just fear.

It was chemical.

Planned.

Systematic.

Vivek clenched his jaw.

"This isn't just a crime…" he said.

"It's a network."

"A business."

A pause.

His eyes scanned the entire room again.

"This place…"

"It's not just a hideout."

"It's a supply point."

And somewhere—

the one controlling all this…

was still watching.

Vivek stood still.

His eyes scanning the room—

filled with drugs.

Proof.

Of everything.

Then—

something caught his attention.

A paper.

Lying on the table.

Folded.

Vivek stepped closer.

Picked it up slowly.

Opened it.

And began to read.

Silence.

His eyes moved line by line.

"I knew you would come here, Mr. Vivek."

A pause.

His grip tightened.

"And just as I thought…"

"…you are here."

Vivek's expression darkened.

This wasn't random.

This was planned.

"I would like to give you an advice…"

"Just drop this case."

Silence.

The room felt colder.

"Because you can't solve it."

"You will only waste your time."

A pause.

Vivek's jaw clenched.

"You can never find me."

Those words echoed.

Again.

And again.

Then—

his eyes reached the last line.

And he froze.

"Your wanted… Mastermind."

Silence.

Heavy.

Because now—

this wasn't just a case.

It was a challenge.

A direct message.

To him.

Vivek folded the letter slowly.

His eyes cold.

Sharp.

"Game on…" he whispered.

Because this time—

the mastermind wasn't hiding anymore…

they were playing with him.

Vivek stared at the letter.

His mind racing.

Something didn't add up.

Mrs. Himanshi.

Mrs. Rajni.

Both arrested.

Then how—

how did the mastermind know he would be here?

Silence.

His grip tightened.

"This means…" he murmured.

"Someone is still giving information."

A pause.

But this time—

he didn't look at his team.

Because he trusted them.

Instead—

his eyes moved around the room.

Carefully.

Observing everything.

Walls.

Corners.

Windows.

Something felt off.

"Not from within…" he whispered.

"Then how…?"

A pause.

Then—

a new thought hit him.

Sharp.

Dangerous.

"What if…"

His voice dropped.

"They don't need a person?"

Silence.

"What if…"

"They are watching us…"

"Through something else?"

The officers looked confused.

But Vivek's eyes darkened.

"Cameras…"

"A hidden device…"

"Or something we haven't noticed yet."

A pause.

"Search this place."

"Every corner."

"Every wall."

"Everything."

His voice turned serious.

"Because if they already knew I'd come here…"

"Then they've been watching us for a long time."

Because this time—

the enemy wasn't inside the team…

they were always watching from the shadows.

The officers spread out.

Searching every corner.

Every wall.

Every object.

Minutes passed.

Then one of them spoke—

"Sir…"

"We checked everything."

A pause.

"There's no camera here."

"Nothing."

Silence.

Vivek stood still.

Thinking.

His eyes slowly moved around the cottage one last time.

Then—

he shook his head.

"No…" he said calmly.

"The camera isn't here."

The officers looked confused.

"Then where, sir?" one of them asked.

A pause.

Vivek's expression turned sharp.

Colder.

"Inside the society."

Silence.

Heavy.

Because now—

everything made sense.

"They didn't need to watch this place…" he continued.

"They were already watching us before we even got here."

A pause.

"Every move…"

"Every step…"

"They knew."

The officers exchanged uneasy glances.

"That means…" one of them whispered.

Vivek completed the sentence—

"They've been watching Gitanjali Society."

"For a long time."

His eyes darkened.

"And if that's true…"

"Then this isn't just a setup…"

"It's control."

Because somewhere in the society—

a pair of eyes was still watching them.

Vivek took a step back.

His eyes scanning the room one last time.

Then he turned towards his team.

His expression firm.

Decisive.

"Take all of this," he said.

Pointing at the drugs.

"Every packet."

"Seal it."

"Nothing should be left behind."

The officers nodded immediately.

"Yes, sir."

Vivek's voice turned sharper.

"Make sure they can't use this place again."

A pause.

Then—

his eyes darkened slightly.

"And listen carefully…"

"We don't have much time."

The team stood alert.

"We have to find that camera."

"As soon as possible."

"Because as long as it's there…"

"They're watching us."

Silence.

Tension rising.

Then—

he added—

"And don't forget…"

"That girl."

A pause.

His voice lowered.

"She's part of this."

"Not just a witness…"

"Not just a shadow…"

"She's involved."

The officers exchanged serious looks.

"Find her."

"No matter what it takes."

Vivek turned away.

His mind already moving ahead.

Because now—

this wasn't just an investigation.

It was a race.

Against someone—

who was always one step ahead.

And this time—

one mistake…

could cost everything.
