Chapter 19 - The confession

That night—

Vivek couldn't sleep.

The room was silent.

But his mind—

was not.

The cameras.

The network.

The hidden routes.

Everything kept repeating.

Again.

And again.

He sat on his bed.

Eyes open.

Thinking.

"There's something missing…" he murmured.

A pause.

His thoughts slowed.

Focused.

Sharp.

"Who installed them?"

Silence.

Because that was the real question.

Not where the cameras were.

But—

who placed them.

Vivek stood up slowly.

Walking across the room.

Thinking deeper.

"These cameras weren't installed in one day…" he said.

"It took time."

"Access."

"A reason to move freely."

A pause.

His expression changed.

Slightly.

Because now—

the answer was getting closer.

"They had to be someone…"

"Who could enter every part of the society…"

"Without raising suspicion."

Silence.

His mind started connecting the pieces.

The guard.

Maintenance workers.

Electricians.

Visitors.

Anyone.

Or—

someone no one notices.

Vivek stopped.

His eyes narrowed.

"This isn't random…" he whispered.

"This was planned…"

"From the beginning."

And somewhere—

the person who installed those cameras…

was still hiding in plain sight.

Vivek stood still.

His thoughts now sharper.

More focused.

He closed his eyes for a moment.

And started recalling—

every face.

Every person in the society.

One by one.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Who had access?

Who moved freely?

Who knew everything?

Silence.

Then—

two faces appeared clearly in his mind.

Mrs. Himanshi.

Mrs. Rajni.

His eyes opened.

"They knew too much…" he murmured.

"They were always present…"

"Around everything."

A pause.

"And they were already working for someone."

Silence.

His suspicion grew stronger.

"But…" he stopped.

Something didn't feel right.

"They were just informers…"

"Not planners."

A pause.

His expression darkened.

"If they were only passing information…"

"Then someone else…"

"Installed everything."

Silence.

Because now—

the truth was clearer.

They were part of the game.

But not the ones controlling it.

Vivek clenched his fist slightly.

"I'm close…" he whispered.

"Very close."

Because now—

only one layer remained…

between him and the mastermind.

The next morning—

Vivek wasted no time.

He turned to his team.

"Continue the search."

"Find every camera."

"Leave nothing behind."

The officers nodded.

And got to work.

But Vivek—

had something else in mind.

He left the society.

And drove straight—

to the police station.

Within minutes—

Mrs. Himanshi and Mrs. Rajni were brought in.

They sat in front of him.

Silent.

Avoiding his eyes.

Vivek leaned forward.

His gaze sharp.

Cold.

"Tell me the truth."

A pause.

"Did you install the cameras?"

Silence.

They looked at each other.

But said nothing.

Vivek's patience snapped.

His voice turned harsh.

"If you don't speak now…"

"You'll be charged double."

The room went still.

Tension rising.

Mrs. Rajni's fingers trembled slightly.

She lowered her gaze.

Then—

finally—

she spoke.

"Yes…"

A pause.

Her voice barely steady.

"We did it."

Silence.

Heavy.

Vivek's eyes narrowed.

"Why?" he asked.

"Who told you to do it?"

Because now—

this wasn't just a confession.

It was the door—

to the mastermind.

Because the ones who installed the eyes—

finally spoke…

but the real face was still hidden.

Vivek didn't blink.

"Who told you to do it?" he asked.

Silence.

Then—

Mrs. Himanshi spoke.

"Someone came to us…"

"A man."

A pause.

"He was wearing a mask."

Vivek's eyes sharpened.

"What did he say?"

Mrs. Rajni continued—

"He gave us the cameras…"

"And told us to install them."

"Inside the society."

Silence.

Vivek leaned back slightly.

Thinking.

"So you just followed his orders?" he asked.

They nodded slowly.

A pause.

Then Vivek asked—

"You both did this alone?"

They looked at each other.

Hesitated.

Then—

"No."

Silence.

"We took help…"

"From Himanshi's husband."

Vivek's expression changed instantly.

A new name.

A new link.

"Where is he now?" Vivek asked sharply.

But before they could answer—

he asked another question.

"How many cameras did you install?"

A pause.

"Five."

Silence.

Heavy.

Because now—

Vivek had found one.

Which meant—

four were still active.

His eyes darkened.

"Then we're not done yet…" he murmured.

Because somewhere—

four more eyes…

were still watching.

Vivek's eyes locked on her.

"Where is your husband?" he asked.

His voice calm—

but sharp.

Mrs. Himanshi hesitated for a second.

Then replied—

"He's not here."

A pause.

"He's on a business trip…"

"As I told you earlier."

Silence.

Vivek didn't respond immediately.

He just stared at her.

Carefully.

Observing every reaction.

Every hesitation.

Because something felt off.

A business trip.

Right now?

When everything was unfolding?

Too convenient.

Too perfect.

Vivek leaned slightly forward.

"When did he leave?" he asked.

His tone colder now.

Mrs. Himanshi avoided his gaze.

"A few days ago…"

Silence.

Vivek's expression didn't change.

But inside—

his suspicion grew stronger.

Because now—

the pieces were aligning.

The cameras.

The masked man.

And now—

a missing person.

"This isn't coincidence…" he murmured under his breath.

Because sometimes—

the one who disappears…

is the one you should be looking for.

Just then—

Vivek's phone rang.

He picked it up instantly.

"Sir…" an officer's voice came.

Urgent.

"We've found two more cameras."

A pause.

Vivek's eyes darkened slightly.

"Good," he said.

"But don't stop."

Silence.

"There are still two more."

The officer on the call responded—

"Yes, sir."

Vivek's voice turned sharper.

"Find them."

"As fast as possible."

A pause.

"And listen carefully—"

"Disconnect every camera you find."

"Immediately."

"No delay."

"Because every second they stay active…"

"They're watching us."

Silence.

"Yes, sir," the officer replied.

The call ended.

Vivek slowly lowered his phone.

His expression serious.

Because now—

the hunt was almost over.

But not yet.

Because somewhere—

two last eyes…

were still watching everything.
