Chapter 18 - Behind the mirror

They reached Gitanjali Society.

The atmosphere felt normal.

Too normal.

As if nothing was wrong.

One of the officers stepped forward.

"Sir… can we begin searching for the camera?"

Vivek raised his hand.

"Stop."

His voice calm—

but firm.

Everyone froze.

Vivek's eyes moved around the society.

Observing.

Calculating.

"We have to be careful," he said.

A pause.

"The society members…"

"They must not know what we are doing."

Silence.

"Because if they find out…"

"They'll inform the mastermind."

The officers nodded.

Understanding the risk.

Vivek stepped forward.

His tone sharper now.

"Not all of us will search for the camera."

A pause.

"We split into two teams."

The officers stood alert.

"One team…"

"will search for the cameras."

"Every corner."

"Every hidden place."

A pause.

"The other team…"

"will find that girl."

Silence.

Because now—

both missions were equally important.

Vivek looked at them—

one by one.

Carefully.

"And listen…"

His voice dropped.

"Don't tell anyone."

"Not even the society members."

Tension filled the air.

"This stays between us."

A pause.

"I'll be watching both teams."

His eyes turned cold.

"Make no mistakes."

Silence.

Because now—

this wasn't just an investigation.

It was a silent war.

And somewhere—

the mastermind was still watching…

waiting for them to slip.

Just as Vivek ordered—

the officers divided into two teams.

Without wasting time—

one team left the society.

Their mission clear—

to find the girl.

The second team stayed back.

Standing with Vivek.

Waiting for his next command.

Silence.

Vivek's eyes moved across the society.

Sharp.

Focused.

Thinking ahead.

"They must have planned this carefully…" he murmured.

A pause.

"There won't be just one camera."

The officers listened closely.

"There could be more."

"Hidden."

"Perfectly placed."

Vivek stepped forward slowly.

"So we need to be prepared."

A pause.

His gaze lifted—

towards the buildings.

"The camera…"

"It has to be somewhere…"

"From where the entire society is visible."

Silence.

Because now—

the search had direction.

Not random.

Strategic.

Vivek pointed ahead.

"Check the high points."

"Terraces."

"Corners of buildings."

"Light poles."

"Anywhere with a clear view."

The officers nodded.

Moving into action.

Because now—

they weren't just searching.

They were hunting.

And somewhere above them—

a hidden eye was still watching…

waiting to be found.

The search began.

Carefully.

Silently.

No sudden moves.

No attention.

The officers spread out—

checking every possible spot.

Walls.

Corners.

Terraces.

Light poles.

Every place—

where a camera could hide.

But nothing.

Not yet.

In the middle of it all—

Vivek stood still.

Watching.

Observing.

Not just the society—

but the pattern.

The logic behind it.

"Think…" he murmured to himself.

"If I were the mastermind…"

"Where would I place it?"

A pause.

His eyes slowly moved—

across the buildings.

Across the open spaces.

Across every angle.

"They need a clear view…" he whispered.

"Of everyone."

"Every movement."

His expression sharpened.

"And they're watching us right now."

Silence.

Because this wasn't just a search.

It was a game.

A silent one.

Where one was hiding—

and the other—

was trying to see.

Vivek took a slow step forward.

His gaze lifting slightly—

as if trying to meet unseen eyes.

"I know you're watching…" he murmured under his breath.

A pause.

"And I'm coming for you."

Because somewhere—

behind a hidden lens…

the mastermind was smiling.

Suddenly—

a thought struck Vivek's mind.

Flat no. 52.

His eyes narrowed.

"All the killings…" he murmured.

"They're connected to that flat."

A pause.

"Then the camera…"

"It has to be there."

Without saying a word—

he moved.

Alone.

Straight towards flat no. 52.

He entered quietly.

Closed the door behind him.

Silence.

The flat felt empty.

Cold.

Vivek began searching.

Carefully.

Every corner.

Every object.

Every possible place.

But nothing.

No camera.

No device.

His frustration started rising.

"This can't be wrong…" he whispered.

Then—

he stepped into the bedroom.

And suddenly—

he stopped.

A strange feeling.

Uncomfortable.

As if—

someone was watching him.

Right now.

His eyes slowly moved around.

"This is it…" he murmured.

"The camera is here."

He started searching again.

More aggressively.

More carefully.

Checking everything.

Drawers.

Walls.

Furniture.

Still—

nothing.

Silence.

Then—

his eyes landed on something.

The mirror.

A pause.

His expression changed.

Slowly.

"That's the only place left…"

He stepped closer.

Staring at his own reflection.

Or maybe—

someone else watching through it.

Without hesitation—

he picked up a heavy object—

and smashed it.

CRASH.

Glass shattered everywhere.

And behind it—

something was revealed.

Small.

Hidden.

Watching.

A camera.

Vivek's eyes darkened.

"Got you."

Because now—

the mastermind's eyes…

were finally exposed.

Vivek stared at the camera.

Cold.

Focused.

Without wasting a second—

he carefully disconnected it.

Holding it in his hand.

As if—

it was more than just a device.

Then—

he walked out of the flat.

Straight towards his team.

The officers looked at him—

curious.

Waiting.

Vivek raised his hand—

showing the camera.

"We found it."

Silence.

Relief—

for a moment.

But then—

Vivek's expression didn't change.

"This…" he said slowly.

"…is not an ordinary camera."

The officers exchanged confused looks.

"What do you mean, sir?" one of them asked.

Vivek looked at the device again.

"It's different."

"A custom piece."

"Not something easily available."

A pause.

"Which means…"

"They're not amateurs."

Silence.

Heavy.

Vivek's eyes turned sharper.

"They're organized."

"Prepared."

"And always one step ahead."

A pause.

Then—

his voice turned firm.

"Find more."

"Search every possible place."

"Because if there's one…"

"There are definitely others."

The officers nodded instantly.

Moving into action.

Faster this time.

More alert.

Because now—

they knew.

They weren't just being watched—

they were being studied.

And somewhere—

through another hidden lens…

the mastermind was still watching.
