The morning light spilled softly into the living room, painting warm golden streaks across the floor. I had just finished making breakfast while Yushen cleaned up the few LEGO pieces the twins had left from last night.
Xia and Xayden ran in, giggling and rubbing their sleepy eyes, ready to start the day.
"Mom! Gege Xavier taught us a new LEGO trick yesterday!" Xia shouted, waving a piece in the air.
"Yeah! Look, look!" Xayden added, proudly showing his mini tower.
Yushen and I exchanged a quiet smile, still feeling the lingering closeness from last night.
But just as we were laughing at one of the twins' antics, Xia suddenly froze and tilted her head toward us, her little brows furrowed.
"Mom… why are you hugging each other?" she asked innocently, her voice curious but casual.
Xayden tilted his head too, squinting.
"Yeah… you're kind of holding each other funny," he said, pointing at us with one finger.
I felt my cheeks heat up and Yushen's lips twitch into a small, embarrassed smile.
"Oh… um…" I began, kneeling to their level. "We were just… saying good morning. That's all."
"Good morning?" Xia repeated, tilting her head. "It looked like… you were kissing!"
Xayden gasped, covering his mouth in mock horror.
"You were kissing!" he whispered loudly, jumping up and down a little.
Yushen laughed softly, ruffling their hair.
"You two are very observant," he said. "We were just being silly grown-ups, that's all."
"Silly grown-ups?" Xia repeated, pouting. "Hmm… okay, but we want too!"
I chuckled, ruffling her hair.
"Yes, you're our little detectives," I said.
"Detectives forever!" Xayden cheered, pointing at both of us as if to confirm their authority.
Even as the twins bounced off to play with their LEGOs, their innocent curiosity made it clear—they were watching, noticing, and slowly learning about the connection forming between us.
Yushen leaned down, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.
"They're too cute… and already suspicious," he whispered.
"Yeah," I replied softly, smiling. "But it's okay. They just care… in their own little way."
We laughed quietly together, holding hands for a brief moment before turning our attention back to the chaos of LEGO towers, breakfast, and the laughter of our little family.
For the first time, it really felt like our worlds were blending—one small, innocent observation at a time. And as the twins played happily with both of us, I felt a quiet thrill: this was only the beginning of our life together, as a family, with love, trust, and laughter growing stronger each day.
