Chapter 32 - Chapter 32. An Inside Job

"The book is on the desk. If you want to take it, just take it and don't disturb my sleep."

On the morning of the second day, when Melanie appeared in Leticia's bedroom in the same way, she saw Leticia curled up under the covers, too lazy to even open her eyes.

This girl hadn't had a proper night's sleep for two days in a row, and today she was determined that even if the sky fell, she would sleep until she woke up naturally.

"Senpai Sani wants to see you." Melanie calmly picked up the booklet on the desk and took the opportunity to tell Leticia about last night's conversation. "To be precise, she wants to see Quinn Sukina."

In the Human World, Leticia and Quinn Sukina were two different people. It was Quinn Sukina that Senpai Sani wanted to see, not Leticia.

"Sang Zitong? Why would I want to see her?" Leticia waved her hand. "Just tell her I don't want to see her. I was exhausted yesterday."

This time, Melanie didn't force Leticia. In fact, she was also a bit worried that Senpai Sani would recognize Leticia as the famous Demon Lord.

If Leticia didn't want to go, that was all the better.

"Then get some good rest. I'll head back first." Melanie nodded and zipped back upstairs.

"She didn't pester me today; that's really strange." Leticia was a bit puzzled by Melanie's uncharacteristic compliance.

But puzzled or not, at this moment she was more willing to close her eyes and peacefully meet and chat with the beautiful girl in her dreams.

Why think so much? Isn't sleeping in great?

...

At noon, in the York family's living room, the gray-haired girl took the small booklet handed to her by Melanie.

"It really is this book. It was no trouble at all to get." After seeing the book's title, a strange smile appeared on Senpai Sani's face.

Senpai Sani was dressed quite casually today, making her look like a beautiful girl in her twenties.

In Melanie's memory, this was the first time she had seen Senpai Sani like this.

"Is this book very precious?"

"Precious? Perhaps it's quite precious to the Demon Race, but for us humans, this book is just something slightly better than trash," Senpai Sani said with a smile.

"The Demon Race?" Melanie suddenly became nervous. This book had spent the entire night with Leticia last night.

If Leticia had wanted to, she could have completely... No, she should have already finished reading this book.

Otherwise, why would she be acting so exhausted today?

"I had previously received news that the Demon Race wanted to purchase this book from Wang Ziwen, but due to secret pressure from various factions, that transaction fell through." Senpai Sani placed the book back on Melanie's table. "I have been worried that that guy Wang Ziwen would try to trade with the Demon Race again, but now, I can finally rest easy."

"Senior, you mean..."

"The book was stolen. The culprits were a man in black and two weirdos, one in black and one in white. After obtaining the book, the latter two injured the three A-rank heroes who were chasing them and then disappeared." Senpai Sani said slowly, "This way, there is no longer any risk of this book falling into the hands of the Demon Race."

Melanie's expression was a bit grim. If she guessed correctly, it was possible that the contents recorded in this book had already fallen into the hands of the Demon Race.

"I will go negotiate with the Hero Association. Those old guys are quite tight-lipped, and they would be very happy to let Wang Ziwen suffer in silence." Senpai Sani, completely unaware of what Melanie was thinking, was still happily explaining her plans. "As for this book, you should keep it safe for now, York Rose."

What method of safekeeping could be safer than the Stellar Sword Saint keeping it personally?

"Senior, if the things recorded in this book become known to the Demon Race, what will happen?" Melanie asked uneasily.

Senpai Sani shook her head. "I don't know either, but looking at how eagerly the Demon Race has been contacting Wang Ziwen in recent years, I guess this book must be very important to them."

"After all, I can't exactly catch those demons who are contacting Wang Ziwen and ask them what they want with this book, right?"

"So that's how it is... Then, Senior, do you have any clues about that man in black?" Melanie's hanging heart settled a little.

It seemed that this book only entered the Demon Race's field of vision after Leticia escaped, and Leticia's reaction to this book wasn't actually that strong.

Maybe it wasn't of any use to her, right?

"Unfortunately, there are no clues at the moment. We only know that the person is a repeat offender with very refined techniques and is very familiar with the crime scene. If not for an unforeseen twist, his plan this time should have been flawless."

"I'm now even suspecting whether this was Wang Ziwen staging a play. Because of pressure from all sides, he couldn't hand the book over to the Demon Race through normal means, so he had someone steal this book to create the illusion of theft."

"In this way, he can clear himself of all suspicion, and others won't easily suspect anything, after all, there's no evidence at all... He might even be able to take this opportunity to push through those proposals of his."

"What a great scheme."
