Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Blood Oath Awakens

The moment the ritual began—

Aria knew something was wrong.

Not just dangerous.

Wrong.

The glowing symbols beneath her feet didn't just shine anymore… they moved. Like veins of light crawling across the stone, forming patterns that twisted and reshaped themselves as if they were alive.

Ancient words—ones she didn't understand—etched themselves into the air.

Floating.

Burning.

Watching.

Her breath slowed.

Not by choice.

But because something deeper inside her was taking over.

"Begin."

Rowan's voice echoed through the chamber, carrying an authority that seemed older than the Council itself.

Four elders stepped forward, forming a circle around her.

Each one placed a hand outward, palm facing her.

And then—

They spoke.

Not in the common tongue.

Not in any language Aria had ever heard.

But her body…

Her blood…

Recognized it.

Pain hit her instantly.

Sharp.

Blinding.

Like fire being dragged through her veins.

Aria gasped, her knees almost buckling—but she forced herself to stay upright.

"No…" Kael muttered from the edge of the circle, his fists clenching. "That's too much—"

"Do not interfere," Rowan warned.

Kael didn't move.

But the ground beneath him cracked slightly.

A warning of his own.

Aria's vision blurred.

The chamber around her flickered.

Reality… shifting.

The voices of the elders grew louder, deeper, echoing inside her skull instead of around her.

The symbols on the ground shot upward suddenly—

Wrapping around her legs.

Her waist.

Her arms.

Not touching…

But binding.

Her heart slammed violently against her chest.

"What… is this…" she whispered.

But no one answered.

Because they couldn't see what she was seeing.

The world changed.

The chamber disappeared.

Replaced by darkness.

Endless.

Ancient.

Silent.

Aria stood alone.

Or at least…

She thought she did.

A sound echoed.

Low.

Heavy.

A heartbeat.

Not hers.

Something else.

Something… massive.

Her body went still.

Not frozen.

But aware.

Like prey sensing a predator.

Then—

A voice.

Deep.

Ancient.

Not human.

"You return…"

Aria's breath caught.

"I… don't understand…"

The darkness shifted.

Moved.

And then she saw it—

Eyes.

Golden.

Massive.

Burning through the void like twin suns.

Her wolf reacted instantly.

Not with fear.

But recognition.

Submission.

Power.

Everything at once.

"Blood of the First…" the voice continued.

Aria's chest tightened.

First.

Again that word.

"That's what they said…" she whispered. "But I don't know what it means—"

A low rumble echoed.

Almost like… amusement.

"They buried us…"

Images flashed suddenly.

Fast.

Violent.

Wolves—stronger, faster—ripping through battlefields.

Alphas bowing.

Not in fear.

But in respect.

Power that didn't follow rules.

Didn't follow hierarchy.

Didn't kneel.

Then—

Betrayal.

Fire.

Chains.

Blood.

So much blood.

Aria staggered slightly, clutching her chest.

"They… killed you…"

"They feared us."

The voice was calm.

But underneath—

Rage.

Ancient and endless.

The darkness pulsed.

And suddenly—

The presence was closer.

Much closer.

Aria could feel it now.

Towering over her.

Watching her.

Judging her.

"And now… they bind you."

Her breath hitched.

"They'll kill me if I don't—"

"Or control you if you do."

Silence.

Because that was the truth.

Aria swallowed hard.

"What am I supposed to do?"

A pause.

Then—

The eyes burned brighter.

"Awaken."

Pain exploded through her body.

Back in the real world—

Aria screamed.

The entire chamber shook violently.

The symbols binding her flared wildly, flickering out of control.

"What's happening?!" one Alpha shouted.

"This isn't normal—"

"Hold the ritual steady!" Rowan commanded.

But it wasn't steady.

Not anymore.

Aria's body lifted slightly off the ground.

Her head tilted back as a surge of energy burst outward from her chest.

Not controlled.

Not contained.

Kael moved.

This time—

He didn't stop himself.

"Enough!" he roared, stepping toward the circle.

The force of his power slammed into the ritual barrier—

And cracked it.

"Stop!" Rowan shouted.

"If you break it now, it could kill her!"

Kael froze.

Just for a second.

That one second…

Was everything.

Inside—

Aria felt it.

The choice.

The same one again.

Submit.

Or become something else entirely.

Her body trembled violently.

The voice echoed one last time—

"You are not theirs."

Her eyes snapped open.

And they were no longer human.

Gold.

Burning.

Alive.

The energy exploded.

The ritual shattered.

A shockwave tore through the chamber, throwing several Alphas back in their seats.

The glowing symbols cracked—some completely breaking apart.

The elders staggered, their formation broken.

"What—what has she done?!"

"This isn't possible—"

"She broke the oath—!"

Aria dropped to the ground—

Hard.

Breathing heavily.

But alive.

Very alive.

Kael was at her side instantly.

"Aria!"

She didn't respond immediately.

Her chest rose and fell rapidly.

Her hands gripping the stone beneath her.

Then slowly…

She looked up.

And everything changed.

Because the presence in her eyes now—

It wasn't just power.

It wasn't just strength.

It was something deeper.

Something ancient.

Something that should not have returned.

"I didn't break it…" she said quietly.

Her voice… wasn't fully hers.

It carried something else beneath it.

Something layered.

Something old.

"I rejected it."

Silence.

Pure.

Terrified.

Silence.

Rowan staggered slightly to his feet, his face pale.

"That's… not possible…"

But he knew.

They all knew.

This was bigger than the Council.

Bigger than the packs.

Bigger than anything they had prepared for.

Because the truth was now standing right in front of them—

Unbound.

Uncontrolled.

Unstoppable.

And this time…

They wouldn't be able to bury it again.

Kael stared at her.

Not with fear.

Not with doubt.

But with something fierce.

Something certain.

Because now he understood.

Fully.

Aria wasn't just someone to protect.

She was something the world would either kneel to…

Or be destroyed by.
