Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Blood Oath and Broken Chains

The words "We will decide her fate" did not just echo—

They settled.

Like a sentence already passed.

Aria felt it in her chest, tight and suffocating. Not fear exactly… but something close to anger. Something rising fast, pushing against the control she was barely holding onto.

Decide her fate?

Like she was nothing.

The energy around her pulsed again—sharper this time.

The crack beneath her feet spread slightly.

A thin line splitting deeper into the ancient stone floor.

Gasps rippled across the chamber.

"She's losing control—"

"Contain her—"

"Now!"

"No."

Kael's voice cut through the chaos like a blade.

One word.

Deadly.

Final.

And just like that—no one moved.

Because despite everything…

He was still the Alpha King.

And that authority?

It wasn't something they could ignore so easily.

Kael stood in front of Aria fully now, his presence expanding like a shield.

"She is not your threat," he said, his tone dangerously calm. "You are provoking her."

Rowan's gaze hardened slightly. "We are assessing her."

"You're cornering her," Kael corrected.

Silence.

Because he wasn't wrong.

And everyone in that room knew it.

Aria forced a breath in.

Then another.

Trying to steady herself.

Trying to push the power back down.

But it resisted.

It didn't want to be contained.

Didn't want to be judged.

Didn't want to bow.

Her fingers trembled as she slowly unclenched them.

Control it…

You have to control it.

She wasn't going to prove them right.

Not like this.

Not by losing herself.

"I'm fine."

Her voice came out quieter than before—but steady.

Kael didn't turn immediately.

Didn't move.

Then slowly… he stepped aside.

But not far.

Never far.

Rowan watched carefully.

Calculating.

Always calculating.

Then—

"There is only one solution," he said.

The chamber stilled again.

Everyone knew what was coming.

But no one said it first.

Until—

"The Blood Oath," another Alpha spoke, his tone grim.

The words dropped heavy into the room.

Aria felt it instantly.

That shift.

That weight.

Even without understanding it fully—she knew.

This wasn't small.

This wasn't just another "rule."

This was something deeper.

Something binding.

Kael's reaction was immediate.

"No."

The refusal came sharp.

Hard.

Uncompromising.

A few Alphas stiffened at his tone.

"You don't get to refuse this," one of them snapped.

"I just did," Kael replied.

The temperature in the room seemed to drop again.

Because now—

This wasn't just tension.

This was confrontation.

Rowan leaned forward slightly.

"You know what is at stake," he said calmly.

"I know exactly what this is," Kael replied. "And I won't allow it."

Aria's gaze flickered between them.

"What is it?" she asked.

No one answered immediately.

And that silence?

That hesitation?

It told her everything she needed to know.

"It binds you," Rowan said finally.

Her eyes narrowed. "How?"

A pause.

Then—

"It ties your life force to the Council," he continued. "Your power, your existence… becomes subject to our authority."

Aria's stomach dropped slightly.

"And if I refuse?"

No one spoke for a second.

Then one Alpha said it bluntly—

"Then you don't leave this place."

Silence.

Cold.

Heavy.

Final.

Kael's energy snapped.

Not outward—but inward.

Controlled rage.

"You try to hold her here," he said quietly, "and this Council will not stand by the time I'm done."

That wasn't a threat.

That was a promise.

And everyone in the room felt it.

But Aria…

Aria felt something else.

A choice.

A dangerous one.

Her mind raced.

If she refused—

They would cage her.

Fight her.

Hunt her if she escaped.

She would never be free.

Never safe.

Not really.

But if she accepted—

She would live.

Move freely.

Gain time.

And maybe…

Find a way to break whatever hold they placed on her.

"Kael."

Her voice was soft.

But it stopped everything.

He turned instantly.

His expression already dark.

Already knowing what she was about to say.

"No," he said immediately.

"You didn't even hear me."

"I don't need to," he replied.

Her chest tightened slightly.

Not in frustration.

But because of the way he said it.

Like her safety mattered more than anything else.

"I'm not weak," she said quietly.

"I know," he replied. "That's why they're doing this."

A pause.

Then she stepped closer to him.

Lowering her voice.

"If I don't take it… this doesn't end here."

His jaw clenched.

"I'll end it."

"You'll start a war," she corrected.

Silence.

Because again—

She wasn't wrong.

Aria took a slow breath.

Then looked up at him fully.

"I can handle it," she said.

His eyes searched hers.

Looking for doubt.

For fear.

For hesitation.

He found none.

And that?

That made it worse.

"You don't know what it does to you," he said, quieter now.

"Then tell me."

A long pause.

Then—

"If they decide you're a threat… they can kill you instantly," he said.

The words hung between them.

Heavy.

Sharp.

Real.

Aria felt it.

That flicker of fear.

But only for a second.

Because something inside her—

That same power—

Didn't react with fear.

It reacted with defiance.

Her lips pressed together slightly.

Then—

"If I take it… they stop hunting me?"

Kael didn't answer.

But Rowan did.

"Yes."

Simple.

Direct.

And that was all she needed.

Aria nodded slowly.

Then stepped back.

Out of Kael's reach.

His hand moved slightly—

Like he wanted to stop her.

But didn't.

"I'll do it."

The words fell into the chamber like a stone dropped into deep water.

Everything went still.

Kael's expression hardened instantly.

"Aria—"

"I've made my choice," she said.

Her voice didn't shake.

Didn't break.

Didn't hesitate.

Rowan studied her carefully.

"Once done… it cannot be undone," he said.

Aria held his gaze.

"Then let's not waste time."

A few Alphas exchanged looks.

Some impressed.

Some uneasy.

Some… almost wary.

Because this wasn't submission.

Not really.

This was strategy.

And they knew it.

Kael stepped forward again.

Close.

Too close.

"You don't have to do this," he said, his voice low.

"I know."

"Then don't."

A pause.

Then she shook her head slightly.

"I'm not running from this."

His eyes darkened.

"I'm not asking you to run."

"I know," she said softly.

Their gazes locked.

And for a moment—

Everything else disappeared.

The Council.

The tension.

The danger.

All of it.

Gone.

Then Aria stepped away.

And that moment shattered.

"Prepare the ritual," Rowan ordered.

The chamber shifted instantly.

Movement.

Purpose.

Ancient mechanisms awakening.

The symbols on the floor began to glow again—

But this time…

Different.

Darker.

Deeper.

Aria stepped into the center.

Right where the cracks had formed earlier.

They seemed to react to her again.

Like they recognized her.

Like they were waiting.

"Once it begins," Rowan said, "there is no stopping it."

Aria didn't respond.

She just stood there.

Ready.

Kael remained at the edge of the circle.

Watching.

Every muscle in his body tense.

Every instinct screaming against what was about to happen.

But he didn't stop it.

Because he knew—

This was her choice.

The symbols flared brighter.

The air thickened.

And then—

Aria felt it.

Something ancient.

Something watching.

Something… awakening.

Her breath caught.

Her heart pounded.

And deep within her—

That power stirred again.

Not resisting this time.

Not fighting.

But… responding.

As if this oath—

This binding—

Was not just a chain.

But a trigger.

And somewhere in the darkness beneath the Council grounds…

Something shifted.

Something that had been buried for centuries.

Something that should have stayed forgotten.

Because Aria wasn't just stepping into an oath.

She was stepping into something far bigger.

Far older.

Far more dangerous.

And the moment the ritual begins…

Nothing will ever be the same again.
