Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: The Awakening Roar

The roar shook the very bones of the earth.

Ariel froze for only a second before instinct took over. Whatever was out there—it wasn't normal. It wasn't a wolf. It wasn't anything she had ever felt before.

And yet…

A strange familiarity curled deep inside her chest.

"I said stay inside," Kael's voice came, firm and commanding as he moved to block her path.

But Ariel shook her head, her eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. "You felt it too, didn't you?"

Kael didn't answer immediately.

That silence told her everything.

Another roar ripped through the air—closer this time. The walls of the elders' chamber trembled slightly, dust falling from the ceiling.

The elders rose to their feet at once.

"This is bad," one of them muttered.

"No," the eldest said, his expression dark. "This is worse than bad."

Ariel's gaze snapped to him. "You know what that is?"

The elder hesitated.

Then—slowly—he nodded.

"A Guardian Beast."

The words sent a ripple of unease through the room.

Kael frowned. "Those are just legends."

"They were," the elder corrected. "Until now."

Ariel stepped forward. "What does it want?"

The elder's eyes locked onto hers.

"You."

Silence.

Of course.

Everything seemed to lead back to her now.

Kael's hand instinctively reached for hers, gripping it tightly. "Then we don't let it get close."

But Ariel gently pulled away.

"No," she said quietly. "I think… it's already here for a reason."

Before anyone could stop her, she turned and walked toward the exit.

"Ariel!" Kael called after her.

But she didn't stop.

The night outside had changed.

The wind was no longer calm—it howled violently, whipping through the trees like something alive. The torches flickered wildly, barely holding their flames.

And then—

She saw it.

At the edge of the forest.

Massive.

Towering over everything around it.

Its form was wolf-like… but far larger, its body covered in dark, almost metallic fur that shimmered under the moonlight. Its eyes glowed a piercing silver, locked directly onto her.

Every warrior in the area had gone still.

No one dared to move.

No one dared to attack.

Because the pressure coming from that creature…

Was suffocating.

Kael stepped up beside Ariel, his body tense. "Get behind me."

But Ariel didn't move.

She couldn't.

Not because she was afraid.

But because something inside her was pulling her forward.

The beast exhaled slowly, its breath visible in the cold air. Then it took a step closer.

The ground shook.

Several warriors instinctively backed away.

"Hold your positions!" Kael commanded.

But even he sounded unsure.

The beast's gaze never left Ariel.

And somehow…

She understood.

It wasn't here to destroy.

It was here to test.

Ariel took a step forward.

"Ariel, don't," Kael warned.

But she raised a hand slightly, signaling him to stop.

"It's okay," she said softly.

"You don't know that," Kael snapped.

She didn't look back at him.

"I do."

Another step.

Closer now.

The beast let out a low growl—not aggressive, but… questioning.

Ariel's heart pounded, but her feet didn't stop moving.

Step by step, she closed the distance.

Until she stood just a few feet away from it.

The size difference was overwhelming.

One wrong move, and it could crush her.

But she didn't feel fear.

Only that same strange pull.

"Why are you here?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The beast tilted its head slightly.

Then—

It roared again.

But this time, the sound was different.

Not a threat.

A call.

Ariel's body reacted instantly.

Pain shot through her veins as that same energy from before surged to life again—stronger this time. Brighter.

Uncontrollable.

She gasped, dropping to one knee as the glow beneath her skin intensified.

"Ariel!" Kael shouted, starting toward her.

"Don't!" she cried out, her voice shaking. "Stay back!"

The beast stepped closer.

And instead of attacking…

It lowered its head.

Ariel's eyes widened.

"What…?"

The energy inside her pulsed wildly, responding to the creature's presence.

It wasn't fighting her.

It was syncing with her.

The realization hit her all at once.

"This isn't an enemy," she whispered. "It's… connected to me."

The elders, watching from a distance, exchanged alarmed looks.

"She's right," one of them murmured. "It recognizes her."

Kael clenched his fists. "Recognizes her as what?"

No one answered.

Because deep down…

They already knew.

Ariel slowly lifted her trembling hand.

The beast didn't move.

Carefully, cautiously…

She placed her palm against its head.

The moment she did—

Everything exploded.

Light burst outward, blinding everyone nearby.

A powerful wave of energy swept through the entire territory, forcing even the strongest warriors to their knees.

Kael gritted his teeth, struggling to stay standing. "Ariel!"

Inside the light—

Ariel felt herself falling.

Not physically.

But mentally.

Like she was being pulled into something vast… endless… ancient.

Voices echoed around her.

Whispers.

Memories.

Power.

She saw flashes—wolves unlike any she had ever seen, creatures of immense strength, standing under a blood-red moon. A lineage of rulers… of conquerors… of protectors.

And at the center of it all—

Her.

Or someone like her.

The truth hit her like a storm.

This is my inheritance.

The power.

The bloodline.

The responsibility.

But also…

The danger.

The whispers grew louder.

Claim it.

Use it.

Become it.

Ariel's breathing quickened.

"No…" she whispered. "I won't lose myself."

The energy surged violently, resisting her.

You cannot deny what you are.

"I'm not denying it," she said, her voice growing stronger. "I'm choosing how to use it."

Silence.

Then—

The storm inside her stilled.

The light faded.

When the glow finally disappeared, Ariel was still standing.

The beast… was gone.

In its place—

A faint mark glowed on her palm before fading into her skin.

The entire territory had gone quiet.

Kael rushed to her side immediately. "Ariel… are you okay?"

She looked at him.

Really looked at him.

And something in her eyes had changed.

Not lost.

Not broken.

But stronger.

"I am now," she said softly.

The elders approached slowly, their expressions filled with awe—and fear.

"It chose you," one of them said.

"No," Ariel replied calmly.

"I accepted it."

Kael frowned slightly. "Accepted what?"

Ariel glanced down at her hand.

Then back at him.

"My power."

A distant howl echoed through the mountains.

Not hostile.

Not threatening.

But…

Answering.

Ariel lifted her gaze toward the horizon, her expression unreadable.

"They're coming again," she said quietly.

Kael's body tensed. "Darius."

She nodded.

But this time…

There was no fear in her voice.

Only certainty.

"Let them come."

Because now—

She was no longer just the girl caught in a war.

She was the storm the war had awakened.
