School had just ended.
The campus slowly emptied as students filtered out in groups, their voices blending into a low hum of chatter. Zi Han stood by the school gate, adjusting the strap of her bag as Yu Wuxian waved energetically.
"I'll see you tomorrow!" Yu Wuxian chirped.
Zi Han gave a small nod. "See you."
With that, Yu Wuxian skipped off, leaving Zi Han alone with Shi Xian.
They spoke for some minutes until Zi Han decided it was already getting late and it was time to go home.
She walked toward her bicycle.
"I'll go ahead," she said softly, her fingers curling around the handlebar.
Shi Xian nodded. "Alright, be careful."
Zi Han lifted her leg slightly, settling onto the seat, and pushed forward—
The bicycle didn't move.
She blinked.
Pushed again.
Nothing.
Her brows furrowed slightly as she got off and crouched down, inspecting it. The chain had slipped awkwardly, twisted in a way that made it impossible to move.
"…It's broken," she murmured.
