Chapter 16 - Unnamed

Chapter: 16

(An unfamiliar longing that cannot be named!)

Aishi's morning felt a little different today. The sky was covered with clouds, the air felt heavy, and she stood silently by the window, gazing outside. A strange restlessness lingered in her heart—something she could feel clearly, yet couldn't put into words. Ayush—this name was no longer just the name of a boy. It was slowly becoming a part of her very existence.

From inside, her mother called out, "Aishi, aren't you going to college? It's already half past eight!"

"Coming, Ma," she replied, her voice carrying a hint of tiredness. Picking up her bag, she slowly stepped out. The road outside was still wet. A worn-out rickshaw stood near the gate, and in her mind, only one thought echoed—"What if I don't see him today…"

Reaching the college gate, she felt a bit relieved. Right there, standing near the entrance, was Ayush. A soft smile on his face, a cup of coffee in his hand. Wearing a light blue shirt, his eyes held that familiar calmness and depth. Aishi quietly walked up and stood in front of him.

"Why are you late today?"

"If you don't come, I don't enter the college. If I walk in before you arrive, the whole day feels incomplete."

Aishi smiled faintly. "Your dialogues always sound like something from a movie. They don't feel real."

Ayush replied, "If you can be as beautiful as a movie, how can I not speak in dialogues?"

Through these small exchanges, their days were moving forward—slowly, yet deeply weaving into each other's hearts. Today was the final rehearsal for the play, and the entire college was wrapped in a festive atmosphere. But Aishi's mind was drifting elsewhere. In every moment, in every glance, she was beginning to feel—what they shared was no longer just friendship. It was something more. A bond that couldn't be named, couldn't be explained, only felt.

Walking together, they reached the banyan tree at the back of the campus. They had come here before. Today, too, they sat on the same old bench. The sound of birds, distant music from the rehearsal, and the faint fragrance of incense filled the air.

"Ayush," Aishi said softly, "Do you think we can really stay together? With so many barriers—family, identity, society…?"

Ayush stayed silent for a moment. Then he asked, "Will you stay by my side?"

"Always."

"Then we'll be together. For as long as we can, as much as we can. I don't want us to run away. I want us to know each other so deeply, to grow together in such a way, that one day everyone will be forced to say—we were meant for each other."

Tears welled up in Aishi's eyes, yet she smiled. "You know, if I ever decide to get married, it will be to you. And if I can't, then I'll never marry at all. Because I won't be able to see anyone else in the place where you are."

Ayush kept looking at her. Slowly, he said, "Today I realized that love isn't just a word in books. It lives in eyes, in breath, in presence. And you, Aishi—you've changed the meaning of love for me."

Evening slowly descended. The college began to empty, the stage preparations came to a halt, the microphone fell silent—but Aishi and Ayush still sat there. They talked for a long time—about the future, dreams, fears. Their relationship still had no formal name, yet deep within their hearts, an invisible promise had already been formed.

That night, Ayush sat quietly by his window, looking outside. The moon was full. The air was warm, yet his heart felt strangely calm. He opened his old diary and began to write—

"Today Aishi said she cannot imagine anyone else beside her but me. Can I believe this? Amidst so many barriers and differences, if such words come from someone, is it a dream or reality? I don't know if we'll end up together. But today, I know—I'm not alone. She is there."

Aishi wrote—

"Today I saw a new color in Ayush's eyes. As if he didn't just look at me, but pulled me into his very being. Even without his touch, his presence surrounds me. I don't know where we're heading, but I do know this—my feelings now have a name: Ayush. His name is my courage."

Thus, between two hearts, an unusual relationship was taking shape. To some, it was love; to some, friendship; to others, a mistake; and to a few, a rebellion. But to them, it was the only truth—an emotion that simply could not be named.

What will happen next? Where will this story end? Will Aishi and Ayush's relationship ever find its place in the beautiful bond called marriage?
