"You heard that rumor?"
The question barely piqued his interest at first. Lucian had no reason to care until the next line gave him one. At the mention of a certain person, his attention snapped into place and he turned to the man beside him.
"That bitch is keeping children locked in her basement," Edgar said, lowering his voice as if the walls might listen. "Says it's for some kind of new drug experiment."
Lucian knew none of these families were saints, himself included. Being part of a syndicate meant getting your hands dirty sooner or later and there was no such thing as staying clean. He had done a bit of everything.
He had killed. He had tortured. He had taken control of shady bars and the prostitution rings the Mancinis proudly called their most profitable venture. Information, leverage, business deals, they all came through women paid to open their legs. Even government officials were no exception.
