Lyra, and Xavier were unable to love any further, so the decided to run to the left.
They ran out of the range of the suffocating aura the mountain of corpses eminated. Their new plan was to travel to the side of the creature.
Hopefully if all went well the abomination would notice the snake. Then they needed to pray that the mountain tried to kill the snake.
So they started acting out their plan, running to the side of the clearing and running beside it.
They also didn't even try to hid the sounds of their steps. Instead they tried to get the mounds attention, steeping on leaves and branches.
Except nothing made as much noise as the tail of destruction behind them. As the snake was burning and destroying everything around it.
Sadly the abomination still had not noticed the trail of destruction being created just to its side.
So Lyra and Xavier didn't stop, continuing forward without a single moment to think. Them the immense aura of the mountain of corpses engulfed them.
The fear that encapsulated them seemed to have such a grasp on them they couldn't move.
They were suddenly overwhelmed with fear, as the snake had not stopped moving. Instead it continued to creep closer and closer to Lyra and Xavier.
Lyra tried to move as much as she could but her body wouldn't listen. Even Xavier wasn't able to move.
They tried everything, but nothing worked, while the snake grew closer. Suddenly Lyra tried to move back ward to escape the aura.
She was freed from the grasps once again, except she didn't give up to get closer to the mountain of bones.
Instead she walked back a bit for a running start. Then with all her strength she ran as fast as she could.
She ran right into the barrier of fear surrounding the mountain. Suddenly it felt like she was carrying the world on her back as she ran.
This immense force weighing down on her did not stop, instead it seemed to grow heavier the further, or really closer she got to the bone mountain.
Despite the pain, despite the weight she continued forward. She pushed pasts her limits, running as hard as she could through the barrier.
Xavier watching this mimicked her actions, backing up and charging back into the barrier. Just lie Lyra he pushed through.
While Lyra continued until the weight became to unbearable. Yet even then she took one more step.
This single step made her feel all the agony, all the pain of each corpse on the mountain. She suddenly collapsed to the ground.
The pain and sorrow she felt rush into her in a single moment was unfathomable. She had somehow just been forced to bear the pain and sorrow of each and every corpse on the bone centipede.
Xavier saw this happen and quickly grabbed Lyra and pulled her back. Against all odds she stood back up.
Defying logic and her fear she stood back up to finish their fight. She was to stubborn to just faint and leave it to Xavier.
The snake behind them continued forwar, even passing the barrier of agony. Its act was almost impeccable.
Xavier and Lyra were almost fooled by it acting, yet a single pause gave it away. The snake was just pretending to be unaffected by the barrier.
Except a couple moments after the snake entered the barrier the corpse centipede shimmied its bone feat turning around.
Then it stared directly at the snake with its two empty eye sockets. The snake showed no fear, instead showing pride.
The snake did not cower, instead it rushed forward to the bone centipede. It slithered by Lyra and Xavier completely ignoring them.
Yet for a moment Lyra noticed an obsidian patch on the snake the size of a human encasing its body.
She smiled after seeing this, wasn't a grin just a small and faint expression. Just recognizing Alex's ability.
Then she and Xavier suddenly ran away, they ran until they were out of the barrier, then they found a comfortable place.
Lyra and Xavier were now sitting next to a tree prepared to watch the eminent battle. Alex was laid softly down next to Xavier, still unconscious.
Then it started, the battle against to powerhouses. Although the winner was quite obvious the fight was going to be beautiful.
The first move was then struck, and the snake whipped its tail at the ground sending a rain of flaming molten rock at the centipede.
Both Lyra and Xavier were surprised to see every skull in the centipede turn their heads and then shoot out strong gusts of wind at each rock.
This wind was strong enough to not only cool the rocks down, but also send them flying back.
The snake seeing this started shrinking, as an obsidian armor started to cover its body. It had reformed into the form Alex had broken.
It then dived into the ground surprising the mountain of bones. Suddenly recovered the bone centipede summoned a hurricane of wind.
This wind was able to push the centipede away from its original path in great speed. After this dodge it bent the from half of its body back.
Now it looked like the mountain of corpses was in a way standing. As it beared its pointy bone legs at its previous spot.
The snake finally revealing itself jumped out of the ground exactly where the centipede use to be.
Sadly for the snake the legs made completely out of bone started rapidly moving back and forth. What Lyra did not expect to see was the centipede take a move from the dream spiders book.
As it launched countless air blades at the snake. In defense the snake started creating a large metal wall to block the blades.
As the ground around the snake melted, condensed and reshaped into a massive wall that it hid behind.
The air blades on the other hand were not stopped by the wall. As instead of hitting it and dispersing they cut through the wall.
Suddenly overcame by fear the snake tried to move in desperation. Except the moment the snake showed fear the battle had already been decided.
The snake was now frozen, incapable of moving away from the incoming attacks. As it just stood their frozen, while Lyra could've sworn the fear in the snakes eyes had been frozen to.
The air blades whistling through the air each hit directly on its target. Each hardening the true body of the snake.
Even after hit the Snake continued to stay still, whether this be an ability of the centipede or the obsidian that almost covered half its body.
Well it didn't matter as now the centipede was approaching the frozen snake with unknown intentions.
Its bony legs crawled forward in a almost beautiful pattern. Both Lyra and Xavier had realized it was the end of the fight.
As they were both surprised by the true strength of the mountain of corpses. Yet they hadn't even seen the most terrifying ability it had at its disposal.
Except they were now going to see it, as the centipede had finally reached the snake frozen for an unknown reason.
Once again it bent back into its 'standing' position. Except the time instead of shooting wait blades it reached out one of its legs.
The moment the leg touched the snakes body a chilling gust of air encapsulated the surroundings.
The snakes body then fell to the ground before the centipede brought its body back down and crawled over the body of the snake.
Then Lyra and Xavier heard a sort of chainsaw sound, before watching new bones on the centipede emerge.
These bones closely resembled a snakes bones, as they realized the centipede had just won the battle, while also devouring the snake.
Now the snake would live on inside the centipede. Lyra and Xavier got up quickly before turning in a random direction and running away.
After seeing what had happened they were way too hesitant to stay near the mountain of corpses any longer.
They ran until they got tired before walking a bit more and finally stopping to rest. They had defeated the snake!
Even if it wasn't directly they were the reason the snake had died. They had overcame the insurmountable wall.
They had proven their strength and smarts, outshining every single past achievement in a single day.
Alex then flickered his eyes open, as he looked around to understand his situation. Alex then remembered what had happened before he passed out.
As he raised his arm to glance at it before wincing in pain. He stared at the blisters and burns on his arm, thinking about what would happen now.
He also remembered their fight with the snake and suddenly glanced around in worry, seemingly trying to find the snake.
Yet it was no where around him, instead the only things he saw were trees and two people talking a bit far away from him.
At their distance he wasn't able to recognize them, yet he assumed that they were Lyra and Xavier.
He was right, as they got closer and closer to Alex he was able to quickly recognize them. Before a question bubbled to his mouth before a thanks could.
"Where's that snake?"
"Jeez couldn't say thanks first."
Lyra gave a snarky comment, yet under that he knew she was happy that he was awake.
"Well we lured it to that horror, the bone centipede or whatever, and well it took quickly work of it."
Xavier was proud of their achievement, even if it was finished by someone other than any of them. He was also excited for Alex's waking.
Then Xavier picked up Alex and hugged him, although it was an extremely light hug to avoid the burns on Alex's back.
While Xavier also whispered something in Alex's ear.
"Don't ever do something that stupid again."
"Ha, I probably will."
Alex took Xavier's words extremely seriously, yet even he knew he would probably do something like that again.
Finally Xavier let go of Alex, while Lyra walked up to him and basically screamed in his face.
"DO YOU KNOW HOW EXTREMELY RECKLESS THAT WAS, I SWEAR IF I EVER AEE YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE TAHT AGAIN ILL BEAT YOU SENSELESS!"
Alex was touched by Lyra's words, hearing them despite both of his fingers plugging his ears. He had also noticed Lyra's change.
It seemed she had come out of her shell and stopped acting, treating Alex like should would a friend, except it was a pretty loud personality.
Despite this Alex was happy to see himself surrounded by caring people on an unknown continent.
"Don't worry I won't. But where are we?"
Hearing this Lyra and Xavier were suddenly embarrassed. As blood rushed into Xavier's face turning it beet red.
Lyra on the other hand turned and glared at Xavier despite it was her fault too. As look it was both their faults they were now lost from the group!
