[IRIS POV]
I heard the sound of Caius's footsteps receding in the distance. He was gone. Healer Felix's acid tongue had driven him away, and I could finally breathe more easily since the air no longer carried his scent. Even when we had been separated by a curtain, I was afraid to breathe in too deeply, believing that if I accidentally inhaled too much of his scent, my heart would soften and I would give him one more chance to shatter me.
Never again.
Healer Felix pulled back the curtain and gave me an assessing look. "He's gone now. And if he knows what's good for him, he won't be coming again."
I mouthed a thank you, but part of me knew I wouldn't be seeing the last of him.
"How… long…"
"You've been unconscious? It's been four days."
Damn. My eyes widened in surprise. It certainly didn't feel that long when I was enjoying that memory with my mother.
