Caius was going to get me pregnant tonight. Failure was not an option. I narrowed my eyes as I examined myself in the mirror, carefully working my eyeliner pencil so that I could make my eyes look bigger and more luminous.
Like Iris's. I couldn't believe that that stupid illegitimate daughter had more beautiful eyes than I did. Being compared to her was a grievous insult to me, but since she was Caius's actual fated mate, I had no choice but to pretend to be her.
Just the reminder of her existence made me angry. My hand slipped, ruining my makeup. I let out a curse under my breath. Damn Iris. She was always ruining things for me, even when she wasn't here.
