[IRIS POV]
A bright light shone into my eyes. I blinked frantically, wanting to get away before I was permanently blinded. My heart continued to shudder in my ribcage. I frantically held on to the last memory of my mother before it slipped away like sand through my fingers.
"Excellent," Healer Felix said, finally removing his penlight from my eyes. "I am glad to see that you are responsive, Miss Iris."
If I could groan in dismay, I would. But as it was, my body felt like it had been crushed into smithereens and scattered to float amongst clouds, so all I could manage was a gurgle. Did I want to live? Doubtful.
