The crowd sucked in a breath at my interruption. They couldn't believe their ears. I couldn't blame them. My bad blood with Iris had been common knowledge, and if there was anyone else who should have wanted to see her dead more than Beta Basil, it was me.
But I could not bear to watch in silence any longer. Iris was already unconscious. They've made their point. What was the point of continuing to flog a dead horse?
"Caius?" Yvette asked, concerned. She walked forward and looped her arm with mine. "Are you alright?"
"What is the meaning of this, son?" My father asked, frowning. "What do you think you're doing?"
"I―" My voice felt clogged in my throat. That was when I realized that the crowd had gone silent. Everyone had their attention on me, waiting for me to give them a valid explanation for interrupting their dinner time entertainment. Waiting for me to explain why I suddenly changed my mind about torturing her.
