"Lala, wake up, we're almost there, come on we have to get on that ship, it's the last one. I can't get you on like this, come on. They'll be back very soon. They can't find us... we've come so far."
A heaving breath escaped her lips as her heavy eyelids split open, bearing witness to the moon's grace. The moon had always been a companion, had it shunned her too?
She was on someone's back the arms that wrapped around her knee to support her weight wavered and twitched, how long had she carried her for? She felt her sister's muscles twitch beneath her knees. How much more trouble did she have to put her sister through. And most importantly where had she taken them to? Did she really manage to get them both out of the damn estate?
Maybe Maa was right, her sister will truly always be the wisest and strongest between them. Gently tapping her out of breath sister, she motioned for her to put her down. She couldn't believe this girl still managed to run so far while carrying her. She recognized where they were, at the shores of Kantama, were they leaving Kantama, but maa where was their maa
Trying to keep her cool while stopping all the spiralling negative thoughts, she managed to get the words out her lips...
"Lois... Maa?"
That was all the strength she could manage.
And yet the little she had was shattered almost instantly, dragging her back into those suffocating sea weeds she'd just escaped. However before she could loose her consciousness again, she was gently shook awake by Lois. Her grip tight and gentle. She looked at her sister, less amber and more brown eyes stared back at her. If she had always been a princess in distress, then Lois was the gunman, she held on to her control and her poised facade even in a time like this, she didn't frown or berate her with hate. She must hate her so much now. She had gotten her maa killed too. She had been too late to stop that woman from finding a search guild. She could guess what had taken her life. She had failed to undergo the surgery, she'd used their savings for the search guild instead. And yet she'd been out there, forgetting the woman who'd do so much for her.
" Lara, there is no time for sobbing right now, they must've already returned to the estate, we have to leave, we have to get on that ship, now tell me you can at least escape a few security posts and checks, I can't cover for you now. Please step out of it and nod if you can move on your own. We can do the sobbing on the ship. "
She looked towards the ready to sail ship, their escape, their freedom and yet nothing felt right, because they were leaving without their maa, without their stronghold.
Her eyes returned to the familiar ones again. Her head bobbing up and down in affirmation to her request.
" Good. We just have to get past the first security check, the rest will be quit easy. We have no identification cards we'd have to sneak our way into a cabin, and that cabin has to be empty, I'll check first and then we get in. The third inspection would be done to ensure everyone is on board, don't worry about that, I know a perfect disguise we could use for that. This, I managed to grab these a few days ago."
She looked at the two nameless sailing tickets, she wondered where her sister got those, only the masters and a few well offs had those, however she didn't think much of it. It was Lois after all, she always managed to get her way around stuff. They would have to present those for the third inspection, which meant, now they only had to get past the security posts and checks of the first inspection. And maybe she hadn't had a need for her skills all these months but she surely hadn't lost her edge yet. Escaping security checks was the easiest part of her gigs.
And so she nodded again, this time her nod firm and assuring.
She watched the smile she'd missed so much form on her sister's lips as she also nodded back, and hand in hand, they walked towards their freedom, their escape. A new life with the memory of their mother in their hearts. They were finally free of the hellish Kantama.
