Cherreads

Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

‎Stepping out the elevator, the bleeding red doors of the room with the source of such soothing music greeted them first, the unoccupied guest seats surprised them more. Whoever was singing that way was very good, her voice had a way of soothing their settling hearts.

‎ On the velvety platform was a white haired ice queen. Ice queen because the lady couldn't possibly be from their part of the earth. Her white hair wasn't a result of her age, it was a tuff of white virgin snow carefully arranged in pouring straight strands, it had it's unique way of glowing along with the lights that surrounded her. It was as though the entire room was decorated to compliment her. The reds bleeding into a sea blue, the sea blue a replica of her icy eyes, the red of the English carpets crawling at her feet and gently accepting the caress of her flowing dress, the double splits allowing a generous peak of her pale white skin. Somehow the red brought out every bit of her unique charm and she knew that. Their eyes fell onto the ones of the ice queen, hers analyzed them the same way theirs did.

‎ Seeing her gaze and the fierce brutality that burned in their shadows, Lois was sure now that Allegra might indeed be as powerful as the Darcens and whatever her background was, maybe it was enough to have her go against a Darcen and help a bride of theirs escape.

‎ "Hello Allegra."

‎Maybe Allegra's youthful appearance might have fooled several other people in Ac-ra however to the girls who'd just walked out the burning hell called Kantama, the girls who'd been hardened by the fire that burned day and night, they knew Allegra was much older than they were. That exotic woman on the platform might be the same age as their dead Maa. Maybe even older. And more so, she was definitely not an ordinary. Her gaze, so much like one who's had to crawl out of a hellish pit too, maybe one deeper and darker than they'd escaped. They had never encountered anyone with such air surrounding them, not even in Kantama.

‎ However what happened next, shocked them more. The instant switch when she finished sizing them up, the music coming to a screeching halt as she smiled at them. And maybe they'd never received such a big smile from a stranger on their first meet, but this woman creeped them out.

‎ "Ay, papi, I think I like these ones." They didn't have to guess who she'd called out to, the next second a white haired Greek god walked out of an enclosed space in the hall, the subtle smell from there telling them it might be a kitchen.

‎ Thankfully he wasn't as pale. Nonetheless their looks were definitely not from their side of the world, wherever they were from, it must surely snow everyday. The Greek god though did not look as fragile as his companion. His built stated the obvious, he was a fighter, a man not new to weapons and death. He wasn't the only one who had such air about him. In Kantama you either kill a few people yourself or get them killed in another way. Lois worked for the slave market, she'd shot down a few stubborn ones when she'd been asked to,Lara was a gig runner, she hunted men down, tracked and reported the whereabouts of men that wished to remain hidden and in the end she sold those informations for money, completed her gigs. Although she didn't put guns to these men's heads like Lois did, she knew they'd be gunned by another, the minute she found them.

‎ They both knew the air that surrounded these two white heads, they were a fine mixture of what they themselves were. Hunters. What family did they belong to and how did they exude such surprising power.

‎ "Hah~ I see why sorcerer." Maybe it was their ringing ears but that man's voice had a grate in it that proved he didn't talk much. Meanwhile the white haired ice Queen's high pitched voice told them she was indeed a talker.

‎"Now ladies, if you're done glaring at each other, let's have an early dinner."

‎The man's graty voice reached them again.

‎"Ah yes, let's go have dinner girls, I'll show you to your rooms after we're done with that. We'll be setting off early in the morning, make sure you get well rested."

‎This was not at all the meeting they'd imagined nor the people they thought they'd be meeting and the entire grand welcome was not at all within their expectations either.

‎Plus why in the hell did they feel Allegra didn't like them as much as she claimed she did.

‎Whatever, they only had to keep their mouths shut and accept the help. It wasn't so hard to do. They'd leave by the morning and it would be the last they see of them.

After, they'd been overly fed, due to Allegra's insistence that they were going to need all the strength they could get, they were directed to their rooms for the night. And again Allegra had insisted they stayed in different rooms, they'd both been too tired, too relieved, too expectant of what was to happen tomorrow, of their approaching and neared freedom to wonder why Allegra would do that.

‎They had failed to hear the whisperings of the two white haired couples in the dim night.

‎" It wouldn't have hurt to find dumb brides too huh papi? "

‎" Don't berate the boys anymore hon."

‎"Seriously, just look at them, they are too smart, they'd surely find a way to escape again even if we send them back. "

‎"Oh, no, those brothers would be just fine."

‎"Those boys might've chosen the dark side but they should've done better, they could find a less sharp and pretty blond out there on the topside. Look at them papi, these girls are enchanting, but they are so good, and even worse their rebellious nature is backed by their own strength, they have the abilities to back their personalities too. Did you see the look in their eyes papi, they are just like us and we'd only gotten this far after so many years and yet I saw how the older one's eyes dimmed when she saw you, they're too smart, they could tell a bit of our past and present with just a glance. Surely the boys could have found someone much dumber. "

‎" Allie, I understand why you'd worry , but those boys are Fernando's. They letting their bride's escape this time might have as well been their own doing. They probably know how to take care of them. Don't scold them anymore. "

‎" I can't believe you're the uncle. "

‎"It's exactly because I'm the brother of Fernando. I trust his twins and his first more than I trust our Antonio. He's still yet to find himself a bride. Tsk... such a waste. "

‎" Don't talk about him Dene, I told you, he's no longer my son, and if he doesn't bring me a pretty bride the next annual, I would hunt him down myself. "

‎" And Allie, you should know,...they could change their minds too... people do...you did. "

‎" You're right I should know. It's just...it takes too much, so much hurt and self blame. I still can't forget... can't forget...what happened...., what if... what if they hurt them as much as I did... I did you. "

‎" We're fine now are we not? "

‎"I left you to die, Denel. "

‎" I'm glad you came back then. "

‎" What if it was too late... What if you'd gone cold ... "

‎" It's enough Allie, let's not live in the past anymore. Remember ... we promised we wouldn't. "

‎" Yeah, you're right, maybe I should trust them some more, those boys really did a good job though, they're goddesses, see how their eyes glow?."

‎" Yes, I wish Antonio would find himself a good one too. "

‎" I told you, don't talk about him! "

‎" Fine honey, tsk, so fierce. "

‎" Isn't that why you chose me? "

‎" Maybe."

‎" Let's go, I've got to pamper those little cuties before they come for them."
